"You had to be there, man!"

https://youtu.be/kIufLA7Bx2Q

There's something you can't quite grasp about a live performance over just your cellophane wrapped CD.

For some reason I recall when I experienced The Hamsters at the Half Moon. They did a bit where they swapped instruments: the guitarist got on the drums, the drummer was on the bass, all in the middle of the piece... maybe it was the alcohol but it seemed a seamless transition at the time.

Did Jimmy Savile actually make an LP?

Mind you, one of the Songs on that sleeve has an apt title, Don't do anything I'd like.

Every track is proper good.

Listening with adult ears it's a stone cold classic.

She's no lady
She'll stab you in the back
She's no lady
She's princess of the pack

With words of fire
She'll make you small
With eyes that smile
She'll make you tall
With words of fire
She'll make you small
But you would rather wait a year
'Til she gave you a call

I'm an Irish cripple, a Scottish Jew, I'm the blackmail man
A raspberry ripple, a buckle my shoe, I'm the blackmail man
I'm a dead fish coon, a pikey Greek, I'm the blackmail man
A silvery spoon, a bubble and squeak, I'm the blackmail man.

Well, I'm the blackmail man and I know what you do
Every one of you, I'm the blackmail man
You make me sick, make me Tom and Dick
Put the black on you, I'm the blackmail man
Blackmail man.

I'm a Paki, Chink, a half-cocked ponce, I'm the blackmail man
A tiddly-wink, a Charlie Ronce, I'm the blackmail man
I'm a nonced old tramp, a bent-up drunk, I'm the blackmail man
A paraffin lamp, an elephant's trunk, I'm the blackmail man.

I'm the blackmail man and I think you stink
You pen and ink, blackmail man
I hate your guts, your Newington Butts
I'll put the black on you, I'm the blackmail man

Hampton wick, Parrafin lamp Fraiser and Nash, Pony and trap
Blackmail man
Up you harris, in your mince Hamptons don't leave fingerprints
I am the blackmail man.

I'm the blackmail man and I think you stink
You pen and ink, I'm the blackmail man
I hate your guts, doing ...
I put the black on you, I'm the blackmail man.

This song is a masterpiece.

Some people will miss the point, and freak out. It's an aesthetic, most usually found in certain types of electronic music. Not an ideological thing.

Suicide - Cheree

Pioneering track from 1977.

Strange, dreamy, creepy and mesmerising - it's like the deep sub-conscious rendered into music and lyrics.

Punch brothers playing Bachs Brandenberg
wiki sez:
"Their style has been described as "bluegrass instrumentation and spontaneity in the structures of modern classical" as well as "American country-classical chamber music".

Today, I listened to the OST from the Guardians of the Galaxy game. They managed to capture the 80's/90's rock/metal scene very well.

The 'his own genre folk' of Richard Dawson meets Finnish metal.

As a fan of classic rock, I think this more recent band had it nailed here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BUAuv2GMbo

I hear influences from Rush (the guitar chord work), Led Zeppelin (especially in that first transition), and Jim Morrison/The Doors (mostly in his voice).

Good stuff! Smile

Well it would have been Bowie's 75th and it's the anniversary of his death I've been listening to his vast works.

I'm on a bit of a SRV journey at the moment, mainly because playing along with the key changes isn't totally beyond my capability.

The G.O.A.T.! Don't bother trying to argue with me.

I've been on this particular journey since I first saw the Live At The El Mocambo video way back in about 91/92. Blew me away then, still blows me away now. I can now play 'a version' of every tune of that gig, plus others from other albums, but I think I'll be forever learning more, refining, trying to do it better. That video though is what made me finally get serious about learning to play, beyond a few chords and by-rote bits and bobs.

You sir, have impeccable taste! Very Happy
