Ive been listening to a lot of Pink Floyd recently as part of my getting back into playing guitar. Ive always been blown away by Dark side of the moon but never really listened to the earlier Syd Barrett psychedelia stuff. Never much moved by The wall only really getting into it because of the schoolyard anthem of "hey teacher leave those kids alone" being popular among my generation of kids, i remember it being banned in school so like a red rag to a bull a lot of us getting sent to the head teacher after chanting it in the dinner que.
Anyway ive come to the opinion that for me the early psychedelic stuff and Dark side is the best stuff and most everything after is just mega-band pomp and self indulgence. I caught video of their tour performance in 88 on Sky arts last night and apart from tracks from Dark side it was all a bit meh.
What do folks here think of Pink Floyd? Looking at the Wikipedia entry on them its amazing just how massive they are but really i dont get it.
