Hi,

Whats all this i hear about the famous 'Yamaha Tick'

aftra riding for a about an hour on my R6 (2000 Carb'd) a pulled up on the drive and heard a ticking sound if i rev'd to about 4000rpm, So i rode to a mates house who is clued up on bikes ended up talking for ages then i started the bike to let him have a listen and the tick had gone??

Bit strange,
The noise sounds like its coming from the engine area, near the from near manifold,
My first thoughts were timing chain??

Thanks

Could be:

Cam chain tensioner
Valve clearances
Blowing gasket where one of the exhaust headers meets the head

I had a tick for ages on an old XJ600 and swore it was valve-related, only to discover it was an exhaust gasket.

Weasley is on the money Its generally an ex gasket if its noisy when hot other than that the cam chain tensioners on Yams can start to fail.

Balance the carbs as this can quiet down motor.
