I'v'e changed the oil so many times because of fuel leaking into bore(which I think I have solved)was just going to use oil already in garage to go out for test ride, what the worst that can happen ?

Worst is slipping/contaminated clutch and using oil meant for a low revving diesel...... might not happen but who knows? and do you want the hassle/expense of new clutch plates and another oil change ?

Won't hurt. I've been using it forever in my roadbikes.

Diesels might be low-revving but petrols don't have compression ratios in the high teens.

It MIGHT make it start to sound noisy.

Diesel oil has a high detergent content.

If there is a lot of carbon gunking up the engine internals, the detergent can shift it through to the filter. This can result in the engine sounding much noisier.

It's not done any damage that wasn't there already, it just makes it noticeable.

This used to happen a lot when people pinched army oil to put in their old bangers. Army oil has a massive detergent content. They'd put it in and after the first hour of running, it'd come clattering back into the yard sounding like the knackered old heap it really was.

I've often thought it was more appropriate for a bike engine anyway, diesels give their oil a real hammering and it's formulated to match. Should cope better than normal oil being mashed through a clutch and gearbox.

The FJ owners have been running a Ring Free Diesel oil for years without any reported trouble to date.

Hi

I would think about using it. Detergent content would be my only real concern.

All the best

Have run Castrol GTX diesel in the XJ with no ill effects, sounded the same as castrol gtx for petrol engines probably near enough the same stuff.

If it's truck oil then the whole detergent thing is applicable (in truth it is actually dispersants that are abundant rather than detergents), although still unlikely to cause any damage. If diesel car oil, don't worry.
