Hi guys.

It seems that I'm not having to fight to get the key on the ZZR to turn. A year ago it was perfect, you could turn on the ignition no bother and it was smooth. It was the same story for the steering lock.

Well things seem to have got really bad, as I have now gone from not being able to use the steering lock in the past couple of days, to now no longer being able to turn on the bike. (it took me a good 10 minutes to get it to turn using a ton of WD40 and trying to turn the key. The WD 40 didn't seem to improve it much though.

I am looking for suggestions to sort my ignition switch so that I can actually turn the key. The bike hasn't been sat up or anything, it has been ridden every day. It has deteriorated over the past few hours especially. I'm worried I might not be able to turn it in the morning.

I have sprayed a ton of WD40 in it. What other suggestions do you have?

I'll go back out and 3 in 1 it to hell also. I was out even trying the spare key etc.

Thank you for any help.

Could be a worn out key. Do you have a spare key to try? If so, try it. If not, take your key and have another cut. Tell the key cutting guy you're doing it because the other one is worn out and he can set the machine up to cut the new one slightly larger than the old one.

It is possible, but I was trying the spare key which really hasn't been used much. I'm sure that worked fine back in the day where everything worked. Thumbs Up

It might just be worth trying a thin oil - 3in one or similar , a bit more lube than wd 40 ? Neutral

Good news guys.

A mixture between 3 in 1 and using the spare key solved the problem.

The spare key can operate the steering lock and the ignition no problem and the normal key can turn the ignition again with jiggling.

I think a combination of it being slightly bent from a rusty lock on my fuel tank and just being worn means it has stopped working.

Lubing the lock and the spare key working has made me confident I'll actually be able to turn the key to get to uni tomorrow. Thanks guys!

I always put a drop of oil down the ignition barrel of my bike when I wash it. Always stays sweet Smile
