Budget 3d Video Card Recommendations?

I'm after a cheap as chips but half decent performing video card as an upgrade to my sons PC.
He currently has a 9500GT that came with it, and he'd like something a bit faster. As I am a bit out of the loop when it comes to PC stuff, as biking took over as my main interest I thought I'd ask here in case someone with a clue is about.

However I don't have a hell of a lot of money right now, so looking for a card that's faster than the 9500GT but not overly expensive. it doesn't have to be top of the range, as long as it can handle recent games at 1024x768 it's all good.

Any recommendations?

how little are you looking to spend? a £100 card should play any game out today a reasonably high res.
5770's are decent and around that price
