https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2070768/Could-Call-Duty-online-warriors-forced-obey-Geneva-convention.html

Quote:
arlier this year, game maker Activision counted up that 62 billion people had been 'killed' virtually in online games of Call of Duty: Black Ops - including 242 million stabbed to death at close range.

That's just one title among hundreds of modern war games - most of which lack any kind of 'surrender' button bar switching the machine off.

Now, a committee of the Red Cross is debating if gamers might be violating the International Humanitarian Law as they slaughter each other online.

Serious?

Well if those bloody immigrants hadn't tried to sell all of the Queens swans then we they wouldn't have tried to sell the Royal Family for the rights to make this game.

Well that is what the article should read.

To be honest it is a bit ridiculous I mean it isn't real? Should actors face criminal prosecution for killing people in films?

sillyest daily mail article ever

the geneva convention only realistically applies to symetrical warfare, where both parties had an interest in playing the game according to the same rules

in asymetric warfare, where a vastly superior force is harassed by a force with few resources, the two sides will not be playing by the same rules, as they will be using completely different tactics

war has always been a messy dirty business, there was never a time where the rules were stuck to, the rules are merely guidelines to be followed when it's useful to follow them

My grandad was involved in various bits of WWII, and he mentioned with disgust that men would kill each other over cigarettes, and thats men on the same side as them. There is no honour in war. How can you make soldiers behave, when any punishment is less than the dangers of death they face every day ? Control is very loose.

Having said that, I dont approve of the american trigger happy computer game approach to war. I think the British army's more measured responsible approach comes from the fact that we used to have an empire and so we have learnt that a measured response reduced further problems later. ie dont kill 100 people if you only need to kill 10

I still think killing people for oil is wrong but I do kind of benefit from our country's wealth which is largely built on organised theft.

Steven Seagal should if only for his stunt double being 5 times slimmer than himself.

My son just decapitated me with a toy lightsabre. Does anyone have contact details for the Jedi council so that I can hand him over? He's definitely gone Sith.

The Geneva convention covers the treatment of prisoners of war and their property.

If you don't take any prisoners, it doesn't apply.

Loving some of the comments.

Quote:
My brother used to be normal. Together we would walk merrily together in the woods, skipping hand in hand, delighting in the presence of the animals. Tentative at first, they became accustomed to our daily visits, and once we discovered that the squirrels and assorted vermin loved mac and chees, we were able to tame them and stroke them. One even fell asleep in my arms once; it was cuteness on a level that surpassed even the most simpering Disney character.

All that changed when my brother discovered Call of Duty. It started small, with him shouting at the animals, calling them noobs and campers. Then he acquired hand grenades and flashbangs, and he would run through the woods throwing flashbangs to temporarily stun the poor creatures. While they stood there dazed, he cooked his frags to ensure that the animals would have no chance of escape from their blast radius. I finally had to report him to the authorities when he shot a badger with a silenced AK-47. Now he's in jail.

Depends which film and which stunt double, is it the stunt double which is just a thin really orange man with a badly fitted ponytail fighting 4 men in a cellar, or is it the one he used for getting in and out of a car?
