About to strip the plastic off the bike to do assorted things to it and I'm toying with the idea of attempting to remove all factory decals and spray her a single colour (satin black) while the swing arm, forks and motor are being fettled.

Anyone done their own paint job? Advice on paints and suppliers? Protips on stripping the fibreglass back? After doing some reading around the main problem I can foresee is space. It may well be hard to get a decent finish without a decent sized draft free area Confused

I lol'd.

Eer my two cents would be that you hire a compressor to do the spraying if you chose to do it yourself. Remember to evenly spray it which is kind of an obvious thing.

But yeah a compressor would be alot better than just cans of paint..

The main thing you need is a clean dry area. wind can pick up bits of dust and stick them to your paintwork. Water makes things impossible.

Fiberglass sands down pretty well, but you'll need some rough paper, 120 grit or lower really.

You can get a decent finish from a rattle can if you don't have a compressor, but it's a lot harder.

In short it's all in the prep work, the actual spraying could be done by anybody

Cheers for the general pointers but google can share most of the info needed there. I do have a small compressor, not entirely sure as to how well it'd handle the job. Will read up further on that.

Main thing I was looking for was opinions on specific rattle cans if anyone had used a particular brand and been impressed.

Best advice is - Get your prep work perfect and use thin layers when spraying.

As stated you can get a good finish using cans, especially when you are spraying in matt.

Do what I did if you're not confident and buy a cheap panel off ebay before hand and practice your technique Wink
