Well...

After my Tuono died with Chr15 on the back of it at a petrol station at the BCF BBQ!!?!

So.. After nursing it back to the BBQ!!?! G, myself, Chr15, Billing, Nowhere Asylum and a few others (sorry cant rememebr) stripped it to have a looksee. We didnt' manage to fix it so it got home and into my garage. I spent many hours trying to sort it, still no luck, in the end I gave up and too it to ApriliaPerformance. He got back to me and it turns out its the ECU.

Guess the price for a new ECU..

£1600!!!! Crying or Very sad

So unless I can find a second hand ECU (Only Tuonos will fit not RSVR ones..)

The bikes a 58 plate! so I'm serously not happy, As its an Italian company and the bikes been smashed I can't exactly go down the route and say its not fit for purpose. Not that crashing it would affect the ECU.. Evil or Very Mad

NOT happy, and this has put me off Aprilias for the rest of my life. im getting a Blade or another SP1/2 next.

Consle me BCF Sad

Get a second hand part from ebay or similar. Dealer parts tend to be expensive regardless of make TBH!

And +1 to those guys for trying to fix it Thumbs Up

+1

Do you know it won't, or has someone just said it won't?

Before writing the old one off altogether (unless it's visibly damaged?), it's probably worth taking the bike to someone local with the equipment and software available to 'flash' the ECU. Aprilia or Aprilia dealers might not do that for you, but independent motorcycle dyno specialists tend to operate that kind of equipment in order to use the bike ECU rather than a Power Commander for custom mapping. I don't know whether the Tuono is a bike that will allow that kind of access/work to be carried out, but I believe it's possible with most modern ECU units. Maybe it just needs a 're-format'? Worth a punt, or at least a few enquiries.

Have a word with Phoenix in Bexhill. I've used them quite a lot in the past for stuff, they're a good bunch of blokes.

They used to be an official aprillia shop I think until maybe 2008 or 2009 and still have the diag gear/bits and bobs.

Might be worth a shout as they used to shift tons of the things.

I've been reliably told by lots of people of the Tuono forum and the Aprilia forum that I can't use an RSVR ECU, something to do with the clocks and other bits not being the same.

The guy ive sent it to is an Aprilia Speclist, reccomended by the 2 forums. And id reccomend him to anyone!

Cheers Robbie will do.

Ive also found a place in london who repairs ECUs?.. thing is though i dont know if a components gone inthe ECU or what.

Alex, know anywhere that can Flash the ECU? ive got a place near me it may be woth asking I guess.

Cheers people! Thumbs Up

Aprillias use the same OBD2 system as Triumphs and later Ducati's. What make is the ECU (usually Sagam). If so, you can download a program called TuneECU that allows you to reprogramme your ECU with a laptop and an OBD2 connecting lead. I cant see RSV's being much different to yours, maybe some jiggery pokery with the clocks unless they can be swapped.

Take another one out for a nice long test ride, accidently swap the ecu's then call the dealer saying it broke down.

(jk as it's a cunts trick and i assume the ecu would be coded to the key anyway?)

There are a couple of dealers up this way who I know of that do that kind of work with ECUs (Auto Sport North, OTC Racing), but you'll certainly be better off finding someone local.

https://cjsracing.co.uk/flashfiles.htm

They are a Ducati place but it's worth a shot. I know someone who had their Monster die and they had the ECU flashed and recovered onto a new one or something like that

Good news is that flashed ECU's have better mapping capabilities than a power commander

(You can remove the ECU and post it)

Was it Griff at AP? Did he not have a spare one anywhere?

You could put a post up on rsvzone and tuonozone to see if anyone's breaking one. Why can't you use an RSVR ECU?

Edit: Just read the post above about ECU/clock compatibility. I reckon the RSVR ECU should still be able to run the bike though. Know anyone wiling to lend you one to try? Wink

Get an RSVR ECU, flash it and it should work with the clocks, if not one of these
