MOT/TAX Law Clarification Needed

Yes they can. Make sure the place you're booked in has your car registration number and your name.

Now, am I right in saying that you are allowed to drive the vehicle without tax to a pre booked MOT test?

I'm presently in Cambridge and have booked the car in at my fave test centre in B'ham on Monday, if I drive the car up on Sunday, will I be an arch criminal liable to having the book thrown at me?

Can police check on the spot to make sure that the car is indeed booked in for it's MOT?

I wouldn't fancy my chances if stopped for driving to a prebooked MOT several hundred miles away, I reckon there is a reasonable distance clause like there is the for taking the most direct route in the law somewhere.

+1 on the distance thing. I also think you've got to drive direct to the MOT station, which means on the same day.

You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station as long as you have adequate insurance cover in place for the use of that vehicle.

This is also for vehicles being driven to and from a pre-arranged test at a Vehicle Inspection Check (VIC) test station, an approved weight testing station and reduced pollution test.


Ive got the problem of trying to tax my bike which has a mot and insurance I just havent recieved the cover note yet. Rolling Eyes

MOT only done today and insurance not yet on the database.

Got the added problem of not being allowed to keep a vehicle without insurance now too unless it's declared SORN. So if you want to sell a vehicle that is uninsured, you'll need to tax it so the buyer can drive it away which means you'll need to insure it just to buy tax Rolling Eyes Not to mention if your insurance expires and you can't or don't want to renew it immediately for some reason (no money or car needs work) then you have to scrap the tax, sorn it and then when you reinsure it, retax it Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes They were proposing it ages ago but it seems to have just sneaked in with barely a mention.
