shit no way! When I started watching bike GP's they were only then going through the 170/175/180bhp mark - they're seriously getting 250bhp from a 500cc? Shocked or even the litre 4st? Shocked

Jeez, you are behind the times.

They are now getting 250bhp from a 990cc 4-stroke.

G - wheelies don't some into the power/weight ration discussion! Razz

Embarassed jeez - apparently so - when were the 2st last used as the basis for GP's?

Laughing

Embarassed aha! that'd also explain the weight being up at 150kgs or so too....

2001 was the last all 2 stroke year, the 4's were introduced in 2002 and last year I think it was only WCM using 2 strokes.

Top teams in f1 have 900 bhp + and are close to breaking the 1000 bhp mark, but that probably won't happen if they decide to reduce the engine size.

What's scary is that on the official f1 website, back in the good old turbo days in F1, an engine could produce 750 bhp/litre. Mind you back then the engines were only 1.5 litres. They now produce just over 300 bhp/litre but with 3 litre engines.

Suzuka
F1 Lap Record: R. Schumacher 1:33.408
Fastest Bike Lap Ever: 2:04.226 (Valentino Rossi, 2002 - MotoGP)

Sepang
F1 Lap Record: J. P. Montoya 1:34.223
Fastest Bike Lap Ever: 2:02.480 (Valentino Rossi, 2003)

Cataluyna
F1 Lap Record: M. Schumacher 1:17.450
Fastest Bike Lap Ever: 1:43.927 (Valentino Rossi, 2003)

I think this will clarify if the video was real or not or at least F1 vs moto gp.

Gotta admit, that Rossi is amazing.

If you can download this video, you'll see that the F1 car beats the superbike in 1/4 mile (best 2 out 3).

If you can't download it, then the article is on this website

the car in the video is a formula 3 car a R7 would never beat the williams F1 car. a moto gp bike like the ducati or Honda RCV would beat a F1 car in a straight line they say a RCV will do 240+mph with the right gearing and the ferrari will do 232mph. cant remember what track it was but schumacher hit 207mph on the straight and caparossi hit 217mph on the duke.I wish they used the RCV to race button it would have been a different story.Just my opinion

It all depends on the gearing, aerodynamics, weight and engine power. The F1 car has as good power to weight ratio IIRC as the bike, possibly better aerodynamics, though the aerodynamics vary hugely between race to race, and the gearing is constantly being altered on all the vehicles anyway. It's good advertising/ PR for Ferrari/ Ducati/ Honda anyway though if it generates this much discussion.

It's definitely a williams f1 and an R7. I think it was on a video when Jenson Button first raced for them in the 2000 season.
BTW.
F1 car = 990BHP /605KG
R7 = 180BHP /170KG
Moto GP= 250 /170 (less maybe)
An F1 car is one of the most aerodynamically efficient machines made. They may have huge wings but they do what they are designed to do efficiently.
True fact: An f1 car at 120MPH can stick upside down to the ceiling because it generates so much downforce.
