Quite a good video about the UK/GB/British Isles.

https://captainranty.blogspot.com/2011/02/so-where-do-you-live.html

What do most people on here refer to themselves as when asked?

I'll usually say I'm Scottish to most people but any forms or documents I have to fill in on my travels I put British to save any confusion, until I speak then they canny underston whit am oan aboot Rolling Eyes

Just read through all the comments after the transcript and im bloody confused now too lol.
For the record im Scottish first and British second.
I had always assumed that most English referred to themselves that way as opposed to British. I may be wrong.
I had to laugh at the confusion caused by his comments about Ireland/N.Ireland and the subsequent rash of people posting their own opinions.
My own experience is people from Eire call themselves Irish as do most Catholics from N.Ireland while most Protestants from N.Ireland call themselves Brits. (Note i said MOST and that it is only in my experience).
The few Welsh ive ever met have called themselves just that.

I'm from England so class my self as English. I don't know of any hatred towards the Welsh, Scottish or Irish. I do know the sheep thing though. Do the Scottish, Welsh and Irish really hate us English?

I LOL'd at 47 Seconds in where he says, that the 4 four countries generally dont like each other. Laughing

Additionally I gave a little grin when it says that the people living in the UK sometimes forget about Northern Ireland.

Personally I have never forgot it was there.

Very informative video. Thumbs Up

Learn something new everyday. Very Happy

And similarly like you said in the original post. I say I am Scottish, but put British on any documents needing filled in too.

Americans frequently get it wrong when they say things like wales is in england or whatever.

Hence your country technically being The United Kingdom and Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Fuck the channel islands and their sunshine.

I don't think the Scots hate the English what so ever. Sure there is always gonna be a good bit of banter and competitiveness between us but I don't think it spills over into "hate".

I'm very proud to be British and think it is a great nation. I'm also proud to be a Scot and admire what we as such a small Nation have achieved in the World, but I don't think we could have done that if we weren't also British if you know what I mean.
I do feel sorry for the English because it seems to be that if you try to show support for your national identity the you are seen as a swivel eyed little Englander. I'd love it if the English could be as openly passionate about their nation as the Celtic ones are.
I know it seems counter intuitive but I think having a strong pride in your home nation makes you a prouder Brit.
I like us having an independent parliament as what is good for England/Wales might not be good for us, but I wouldn't like us to become fully independent. It would bring too much hassle and it doesn't help that Hollyrood is full of f**king numpties. But it would also throw us into the arms of Nazi powers of Europe and we'd probably end up like the Rep of Ireland. I think having a good strong UK and getting Europe to feck is the way forward Very Happy

I think most of us(Japanese) don't understand this correctly. Very helpful video.
I don't know why but U.K. is called just "Igirisu" here, and most of the people think it is one country, and many thinks UK=England. I'm afraid some don't know well about North Ireland.
I didn't study world history hard, I must study U.K. history more to understand the latter half of the video.

Northern Ireland is a horrible complicated mess that most of us don't understand. But there is nothing important there so we don't really care Laughing
