Bloody Diesel Spills

I just had to go and rescue my daughter after she came off her bike on a roundabout. Thankfully shes OK, just a bit shaken up.

There was a huge swathe of diesel on the roundabout which is why she came off. She said she dabbed on the brakes and the back end let go.

Where does this diesel come from.Surely you can't overfill tanks enough so it spills out. The bloody police should do any driver who is caught with diesel spilling on the road.

Mostly from trucks who brim the tank as it's all put on the company's card, then they don't have to fill up for awhile.

Seen an EPA lorry filled to the brim with no filler cap put back on. Massive stream (width of the filler spout) come out as it went around the first roundabout. Did chase after them, but got stopped at the next set of lights and had to be back at work.

The rain and sudden hailstorm this afternoon turned the 3 roundabouts I normally navigate around cheltenham/gloucester in a total nightmare. You can vaguely see the iridescent maroon sheen but a lot of the time it's too late. Short of taking vengeance on innocent truckers after you fall off, there's not a lot you can do. I remember going on those 2 killspills rallies back in 04/05 and 6 years down the line, I don't think anything was taken away from it. I think sometimes, stabilisers would certainly benefit us - kinda like diesel deployed outriggers in these situations. Well at least your daughter's OK. Bike damaged much?

The crash bars took the worst of the damage. Just a new headlight from first inspection. Anything else should be bendable back. I don't think there is anything major damaged. I rode it home from where she dropped him and it seemed to ride OK.

I'll have a proper look tomorrow.

I think an automatic 12 month ban for any lorry driver caught spilling diesel would probably get these buggers to be more careful. They just don't give a toss.

You know coming round a roundabout once, a grandad in a Kia thing stuck in a stationary queue in the left hand lane and I came round in the right decided to SMIDSY me..... I was right by his drivers door as he lurched out. 750 did a sort of wibble as he hit my knee, and the bash-bars cought the front bumper where it tucks into teh wheel arch.... Took his whole fucking front end off!
Funny as fuck, becouse he then RAN OVER the thing!
One of the few occassions bike wins!
Bludy leg was sore for a while thought!
But hey!
How many of us can say we've had an encounter with a SMIDSY and they have come off the worse for it!

had a bird in a nover do a suden uturn in frount of me as a lad onece

as i was filtering she had sudenly decided to do a uturn and go back the way she came with warning or indication

the bike was fooked frount end but before flying 20foot in air and over car and landing upsidedown on me head

i wrote the nova off took door out with me knee total`ed main beam above the nova door with head bike had wing mirror stuck in bike clock


bike takes out thw novas frount wing before landing down the road

some how ethere with me elbow or boot i put the drivers window in

bike need new clocks bars clutch leaver and back indicator and a new left fork.


would have avoided it now but was young lad of 18 and filtering a high speed

only injury were a slitly brused knee and a small friction burn for leather jacket lining on elbow


but the world was sping and i was seeing some stars

good job nova are made of melted down coke tins

i dout id bounce as well thease days


ID much rather be wearing leather in an acident

was only wwearing a good jacket on leg was a pare of 501`s

they dont make em as well now lol

I reckon new lorries should be fitted with catch-trays similar to the oil-tight bellypans of race bikes...

Might stop any future overfilling based spills.

Come across my first big diesel spill other week. No idea what had happend, but the small ish roundabout was covered. Looks like the bus/lorry went around the roundabout a few times, the slick was just massive.
Bit scarey as I was just tip-toeing around the thing. Wheels covered

why don't haulage companys have a device that immobilises the truck untill the cap is locked and its tamper proof,should pay for its self with all the wasted diesel

Glad your daughter is ok, diesel is the biggest PITA on the roads atm. Every fecker seems to be spilling it, there was a spill about a mile long and a foot wide down one of the dual carriageways I use to get to work today. How the hell does it spill out in a straight line?

I've noticed its nearlyalways on the roundabouts, having had several skids I always take extra care around them.

Would be great if farmers chucked their hay or sawdust on roundabouts, no more diesel problems then.

Alternatively would be nice to have a button operated sawdust ejection module on the front wheel of your motorbike, that way you could fire it onto diesel when you saw it coming up on a roundabout.

There really is Diesel everywhere at the moment, I can't understand why there is so much of it on the roads.

A roundabout down from where I stay is particularly bad as it has a service station which caters for HGV's who fuel up (and over) then take the roundabout to get back onto the motorway.

Sadly this round abouts on my commute everyday so potter around it like a granny....

I agree though, a sealing fuel cap would be awesome.
