hi guys,

iv recently passed my bike test and have aquired a 1985 yamaha xt 350, the bike itself is in very good condition. the only problem i am having seems to be with the gear box.
the bike goes into every gear no problem although when you go into 3rd and give it some good revs it hops, it still stays in gear it doesnt make any crunching noises no bad noises whatso ever, it just hops and slips between drive and no drive and when you ease off on the revs it goes back to normal and drives like normal as long as you keep the revs well down, keep in mind every other gear is fine when you give her some good revs.
problem just seems to be with 3rd. the clutch biting point does seem to be at the end off the lever travel but i still think it feels ok.

hope to hear from yous soon, thanks Jordy

I had an XT225 once, when the oil got hot my friction plates slipped even thought he friction plates were ok.
If it goes through the gears fine with no grinding, and doesn't jump out of gear it sounds as though your friction plates, and or clutch springs are goosed, because when you apply the power you are loosing drive.

They are easy enough to replace.
I would take the clutch basket out and takes the springs, friction plates and inner metal rings to your local Yamaha dealer and ask them what needs replacing.
The friction plates will be a cert.
Look for you local Yam dealer here.

It's an easy job, just refer to the workshop manual if you want to have a go your self.
