Switch from CBR 600 to R6?

Hello All,

I would love some advice or just opinions on CBR 600F vs R6. I currently own a 2000 CBR 600 FY but am considering selling it and switching to an R6.

Would I find this a challenging switch? I have read that the R6 is far more 'race focused'. Would this present a big learning curve? Any huge differences I need to consider when riding an R6 that are not an issue on the CBR? My journeys tend to be short - commute from zone 2 to central London and various city based errands. Occasional trips outside London but no regular big miles.

I am not a rich man so would probably be looking at the 2000 to 2004 model R6. Could anyone also advise on what to look out for when buying one of these? Any obvious weak points that require checking?

The CBR is a fantastic bike but just fancy a slight change.

Have also been considering a supermoto, specifically the BMW Xmoto. Anyone have any experience of this? I did think about a Duke but I assume this would require a fair amount of maintenance and TLC so a bit put off. I also assumed that most 2nd hand Dukes have been hammered.

Hugely grateful for any advice and tips members can give me.

The CBR is a compleatly differnt to the R6.

The power is higher up the rev range and its more head down arse up bike.

The only problem ive seen repeated on here is second gear on the R6. personally I prefer the CBR Razz

Apart from the seating position being a bit more 'weight on wrists', I never noticed that much of a difference. Certainly doesn't present any kind of 'learning curve' to go from one to the other.

Sports 600s. All the bloody same really. Laughing

The cbr is the only sports bike id want to travel around london on. i found the r6 very uncomfortable, tho ymmv so i would suggest test riding one for at least an hour before buying one.

I wouldn't say it's a huge step. Yes the R6 will have a little more weight on the wrists, but personally I've never found this to be an issue.

whats the point in london? 2000 cbr sounds about right. zone 2 and in youre never going to be over 50mph anyway and your bike will get trashed.

I wouldnt want to ride around on an r6, makes sense on the track or on the road at speeds above 80 possibly.

Does not make sense for short journeys around London.

A scooter would, but you dont want one, so get a supermoto.

A sports bike in London is fine BUT you're talking central London so I would rather go with the above and get a supermoto or something more upright. You'll spend 90% of you're time filtering anyway Laughing

Thanks to all for the advice and opinions.

Seems to be some concensus emerging that a supermoto would be quite appropriate.

Any thoughts on the BMW G 650 Xmoto?
