Scooter Recommendations

No, I'm not turning all Mod. It's for a silly competition. And since I never did the Moped/Scooter thing, I don't know my Peugeot from my Piaggio. Any useful advice and recommendations would be gratefully received.

These are the requirements (in no particular order).

- Costs as little as possible
- Is as quick as possible
- Handles well (for a scooter)
- Maximum 85cc 2 stroke
- Maximum 125cc 4 stroke
- Pre 2000 (potentially flexible on this)
- CVT transmission
- Any mods allowed but must not exceed £300 cost (in addition to the cost of the Scooter)
- Can comfortably carry my 'big boned' (i.e. fat ass) 17 stone, 6'1" frame.
- Will reliably make it through a 3 day, 1000 mile trip (with appropriate prep and care).

In short, the best performance within those capacity limits for not very much money.

Can be any style so long as it's a twist-n-go. Also able and willing to put in a decent chunk of garage hours so it doesn't really matter if it's fairly shabby to begin with.

They are a bit rare but I used to have a Sym Shark 125 4 stroke (actually have owned 3). Its a fairly large scoot but handled well and shifted. It was a 4 valve engine so revved well and bulled well.

Also It will do a genuine 80mph, as I was caught at 81mph in a 60 on one!

I *think* they stopped making them in 2001. I picked up a 1999 X plate last year for £250 used it for 3 months and sold it for £500.

Put a set of sticky tyres on it and a scorpion can and the will shift for a 125! Also the early ones have a remote start and alarm, the rim mounted fron disc looks trick too!

Ah yes, that's exactly the kind of thing. And I thought Sym was some Chinky brand of late.

£250 would be fine, £500 pushing it a little pre-mods.

Oh, forgot to add they are comfy too. I did 400 miles in a day on one and my arse didnt feel like it had been gotten at by bubba.

best two stroke would be gilera runner sp50 or even four stroke vx125 could fit the bill

any two stroke piaggio engines are very tunable and the four strokes are reliable and faily quick

i had 90 (speedo) on my runner 125 on more then one occaision overtaking cars
