I like what one guy said:
"When a computer beats the words best at chess we'll either think less of the human mind, more of computers, or more likely less of chess"
Which is very true. Soon we will think less of understanding language & meaning and ability to recall facts. We will get more accustomed to outsourcing these things to technology. I mean who needs to remember things when you have a google chip in your head?
Ultimately even a simple computer could win Jeopardy or be unbeatable at chess, the problem is getting the 'intelligence' programmed into it. This is a task that must be done by humans and to be honest a task we're very bad at. We can do lots of things that we can't explain how we do them to another person let alone a mathematical machine. e.g. how do you recognise speech? we're amazing at it, but struggle to tell a computer exactly how we do it. This leads to long research and development times for the creation of such machines and algorithms.

I fully expect Watson to win, However this doesn't mean a revolution for AI as the software is still man made, we're just getting better and better at it. The true AI revolution will come when AI driven machines can design and build other improved machines. Once this happens humans will be taken out of the loop and progress can speed up massively. But for now and in the near future AI is limited by us.
