Ok, so now its running, need to run the bugger in.

I cant seem to go faster than 50mph given their run in procedure (5th or 6th gear indicate 50mph at 5k rpm)

Is it safe to up the revs every now and then, give it a quick squirt to 7k? How long do I have to do this for?!

Its an RS, a bike that famously goes bang , just run it in as per you were told, just wait to have fun and the bike will last a little longer.

A quick squirt now could bring your fun to an end early later, though it "may" not do much bad.... But do you want to risk it?

Hi

I wouldn't worry about the odd squirt up to 7k.

As to running in, I normally keep to 5k for 500km and then add 1k every 100km. However this might be a bit excessive.

All the best

Keith

Ive literally worked it around 4-5k and take it to 7k gently half throttle ever now and then... maybe 3 or 4 times during my journey.

So keeping to 5k for 300km and then raising 1k every 100km... would that sound fair?

Hi

Probably be fine, or even a bit less running in. Just make sure you don't thrash it from cold.

All the best

Keith

Ride gently about 4-5mins after idling, after 5 miles i'd open up.

So...Shall i do 200km at 5k then add 1k every 100km until 500km

Should be fine. I ran my bike in and did a few k over 5, and had no engine problems for 5 years, and the guy who I sold my RS got a mechanic to look at the engine and he said it was perfect!

I did ride it slowly because I was a newbie, but still hit over 6K by 600 miles easily! Use the best oil and make sure it is warm, but I guess the advice would be, don't do it too often.

Hi

It is a real difficult one to say, but paranoia rules. Think I would stick to 300km at 5k but maybe go up to full revs a bit quicker (maybe 1k every 50 km). Only a week or so of use so not a great problem.

All the best

Keith

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I ran my bike in the motoman method, but mine's a 4 stroke 125 and normally I'd throw out DO IT THIS WAY INSTEAD...

But yours is a 2 stroke and we know what Aprilia RS125's are famous for....

So you should definitely stick to the book for this one!

I was thinking only a week? Heck I was doing 2 miles a day to and from work. Took me months to reach 600 miles LOL.

Hi

Commuting for me is about 250 miles a week, and has been for most of my working life (and sometimes a lot more), so easy enough for the miles to pile on.

All the best

Keith

Probably shouldnt try this... but i took it a bit more as going downhill on a 70... it really pissed car drivers off.

Theres not much speed anyway.. like im used to grabbing a handful and it raises the revs... but a handful at 5k just didnt make the revs rise at all... Question

Hi

Never is much in the mid range. Check the power valve is working (and not stuck open).

All the best

Hi

Be interested to know what he has changed there.

It is possible to take the exhaust blanking piece and mill a bit off the end to get the top end power of a full power bike, but doing this will mean stuff all low and mid range power (nice fun power delivery though).

All the best

Keith

Stock blade is fitted in fully closed position using a flat blanking plate.
