Afternoon,

A few things really, I've been riding my XT125X 2007 for 3 years now (I’m 25 years old) don't see the point in getting a big bike as its only used to get me to work.

1. Is there some sort of cheap test i can take so i can remove my L-Plates and have a passenger? really don't want to spend £500 on a full bike licence yet.

2. I’ve had no accidents and my insurance used to be £30 a month but it renewed 2 months ago. being stupid i didn’t look through the costs, turns out I’m paying 100% more (£60) then last year but when i ask for a quote from them they give me (£25) is there anything i can do?

3. Is it good practice to overtake a bike while it is filtering? I don't do it but a lot of bikes do it to me.

Do your theory test (£30) Book MOD1 (£15.50) MOD2 (£75.00ish) via the DVLA site and do it without training/1 lesson for MOD2 to brush up on bad habits. DAS needs to be on a big bike exceeding 33BHP I believe, so you may have to hire from a training school...?

....Can't help on that.

If I saw a motorbike making progress quicker than me filtering, I'd pull over for them. If someone infront was taking the michael going slow I'd overtake em happily.

1) You can do your test on your 125, you will then be restricted to 33bhp for two years.

You could just book it yourself online, but will need to do your theory first.

2) If you agreed to the new insurance, then all you can do is cancel it and start a new policy. But they may ask for more money of you to cancel the policy.

3) It is legal to filter as long as you don't cross over a solid white line. If you want to wait in line you might aswell get a car Wink

- Its not like i'm driving like an old granny, can be filtering up to 30mph and some fella in his big sports bike suddendly overtakes me at 50mph.

I guess its my own fault for creating my own little rules in my head like (Don't over take another motobike give them room and don't ride up their ass)

But if everyone is doing it i may as well too.

Regards to number 1) is it called the A1 test?

Quote:
Category A1 - Full Light Motorcycle Licence
If you are happy to stick to riding a 125cc motorbike, then you can do your practical motorcycle test on a motorbike with:

An engine capacity between 75cc and 125cc
A max speed of at least 63 mph (100 kph)
A full light motorcycle licence allows you to ride any motorbike with:

An engine capacity not exceeding 125cc
A max power output of 11 kW (14.6 bhp)
You can carry a pillion passenger and you can ride on motorways.

Forget the A1 test, do the A2 test.

You still do it on a 125 but after 2 years you will be able to ride any size bike.

What they all said.

Do an A2 test, which will get you a full A license with a 2 year 25kW restriction (there's currently no such thing as an A2 license, despite what the mongs at Ride magazine just printed. Rolling Eyes)

Don't waste money on lessons. Failing a couple of tests won't cost you more than taking lessons beforehand, and you might pass the tests first time - you can't pass during a lesson. Consider trying to get on a BikeSafe course or a free IAM or RoSPA assessed ride.

The DSA has some quite helpful videos on YouTube. You'll want to get a training DVD - from any supermarket - for the theory test, as you'll need to practice the hazard perception clips: the scoring zones are quite... subjective.

Book the theory, mod1 and mod2 yourself through the DSA / DirectGov websites. They're currently calling the A2 test a "standard motorcycle" test., just to confuse things further. Brick Wall

£31 theory + £15.50 mod1 + £75 mod2 + training DVD + fuel = job done.
