Hey guys, got a problem with the DTR which is leaving me scratching my head.

Was sat at the lights yesterday and it just died, no warning or anything. Tried to kick it over but the kick start was solid and wouldnt budge. Dropped the bike into gear and rocked it back and forth, and it freed up the kickstart so I managed to start the engine again. It fired up straight away but was knocking and cut out again, once again the kick start going solid.

My first thought was either a ruined piston/barrel or something has broken in the gearbox. Thing is I can run through all the gears fine and the bike rolls perfectly in neutral and will bump start in gear but the same happens agan. Also, with the spark plug out if I turn the engine over really slowly it will do that fine, but after about 20 kicks will go stiff again and lock up. Not had chance to open her up yet to take a look but might check out the piston today to see if there's any damage there, just thought I'd ask to see if anyone has any idea what could be the problem?
Left the impact driver at Ben's house so not gonna be able to get the clutch cover off until I get hold of that.

All fluids were fine and topped up, engine wasn't overheating and the oil level has gone a bit over the last week so assume the oil pump is working ok.

Cheers,
Gaz

That sounds like a seized engine or shagged big end bearing to me.......

Sounds like a broken clutch basket. Have the cover off and take a look.

Well I've got the engine out and the head off. The conrod/crankshaft bearing (don't know the proper term for it?) is knackered so the conrod is locking up every so often.

Gutted!
