I can't vote twice but I'll say both cos I'm fat and yeah I must be something to do with it cos race bikes have them.

Bikes are usually tested for aerodynamics before they get sold. Usually standard screens look quite aerodynamic. But then others don't.

For example:

Aprilia RS50/125/250 has a nice screen and probably just as good as a double bubble.
Honda NSR125R has quite a small screen and you can't duck down and get with the flow of the bike.

I only mention them two because you always said you liked the RS screen.

Huggers protect your shock from getting covered in shit, and they're not standard either.

The aftermarket parts market would crumble if manufacturers made everything useful as standard. Smile

Double Bubble screens aren't fitted as standard because they don't look as good, especially when sat in a shop without a rider.

It significantly helps wind noise at stupid speeds and pretty much completely gets rid of it if you do duck behind it.

Look at pretty much any race bike and you'll see a bigger or double bubble screen.
You can duck right behind a normal screen, but a double bubble lets you get decent aerodynamics without having your head resting on the tank... which aint exactly great for actually riding your bike.

Hmm not always true to be honest.

The RVF400's standard screen, (IMO) looks naff and is useless, stick a double bubble on and it looks much better.

But some bikes look pants with them.

Depends really.

I'd agree, the reason they don't come as standard is because it's generally agreed they don't look as good. They have an upright look to them, making the front of the bike look more flat and less streamlined.

However, look at any race bike and it will have one. In my opinion it's not possible/practical to be ducked behind a standard screen all the time, on my bike at least. And as Stew would say "If it's good enough for the top race teams.........". Laughing

For the money they cost, I'd say they're a good mod to do, especially for motorway riding, or a track with long straights. Plus they're a piece of cake to fit yourself.

I think double bubbles look much better on 95% of bikes than standard screens, except the Powerbronze Blade ones which look daft.

And some bikes come with huggers, ZXR400 does, R1 does too doesn't it?

Double bubble screens look crap on my bike.
There was a yellow T595 in the shop where I bought my own bike which had a double bubble screen and it looked rubbish. The screen on my bike is already at a steep incline, so adding a double bubble makes the screen near vertical! Smile

Mine must be at the correct height already! Very Happy

It definitely needed a hugger though.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Riding my storm with a standard screen used to hurt at the higher speeds if you stayed upright, whereas riding Zim & Drew's ones with the bubble screens felt fine, so definitely a difference in how much wind you have to put up with. Also I cannot emphasise how much sexier my RVF400 looked once I'd fitted a double bubble... changed the entire outline it did Razz

I would agree but I think my bikes screen is already pretty big and it may look a little silly with a double bubble screen Confused I am yet to see a YZF750 with a double bubble in place so I haven't been able to judge for myself.
Having a double bubble fitted to the NC30 helped loads though, or at least it helps whoever is riding the bike as the wind is deflected over the rider and straight into whoever is on the pillion seat. Rolling Eyes

BUY ONE! It's now the 1st thing I buy when I get a bike (If they do one). On the RF it made 120mph feel like 60 and on the Blade 150 is now fairly comfortable.
And as was said ^^ All the racers use them, you calling them fat and lazy?
If the manufacturers actually shipped all these extras with the bikes the aftermarket people would lose millions, so they don't.
Not too many bikes come with steering dampers, yoke protectors, huggers, heated grips, seat cowls etc. but shed loads of people buy them every year.
Every new bike has "improvements" everyone would make, the manufacturer just gives you the canvas.
Stew's bike would look fairly silly with one though, it already has an afro Very Happy
That's my Penny Coin Penny Coin Very Happy
