Not a bike related incident though!!

I decided it would be a good idea to stick a freshly sharpened kitchen knife into my left hand. Embarassed

I had three stitches and a steri-strip stitch. I caught the bone and also nicked a tendon but no major damage. If i'd gone a further 2mm into my hand, it would have been surgery to fix my tendon back together. Crying or Very sad Rolling Eyes

Clever eh?

Cutting a ham and firstly remembered my brother's chef training to keep a sharp knife. Got the steel out and sharpened away. Cut downwards through the plastic then desided to cut upwards through the rest of the plastic. Like a prune, I left my Left hand over where the knife was and instead of slicing through (that would have been easy) I pulled upwards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Embarassed

There was no pain at all because i'd sharpened the knife so it was a clean cut. and I got a chance to stare at my bone for a second or two before the blood came. The layers in the hand between the finger and thunb are really interesting. Bone, muscle, fatty tissue and tendons then a gap where loose skin covers it!!!!!! Neutral

Helpful Diagram

The nurse said that because I had a couple of drinks earlier, I shouldn't take pain killers but drinking a few more to get drunk may help the pain when the lynacaine wears off!!!!

Youch. Confused Hope you get better soon man.

While we're on the subject of scars, I managed to fall through my greenhouse on my 8th birthday. Had to get eight stitches in my shoulder.

A very memorable birthday that was. Laughing

Hehe, cool policy Laughing

I've still got a scar from when I cut my leg open with a penknife once, it's very unsettling to be looking at your insides through a hole you just made Sick

Do not have it Jimbo, I was told three years ago I wouldn't be able to walk in 6 months because my cruciate ligaments were too long and they would strech more and more. I had a knife shoved in my knee three years previous to that also which damaged my cartlidge.

I am still walking fine and have an occassional twinge but had I taken their advice and had the op, They couldn't guarantee that there would be a successful result!!

I've got tons of scars all over from playing rugby ( I was a pro for a season until I got my skull fractured!!!!)

It's ok, I'll get more compensation if I go for the operation Wink and my knee is fucked, it gives way every couple of days and causes me a lot of pain especially at the moment. He said it was long term damage, the ligament will just get worse (over 10 years he said you'd have lots of trouble)

I want the operation as it's also 2 months off work...paid fully Wink

Have you had the tendon checked out properly, I know what an annoyance it could beif you have slit it - or even just damaged it slightly...?

Lucky it wasn't cleanly cut through though - you'd have been in a funny harness thing for months

A doctor at A&E checked the tendon and said that because it was a nick not cut through it should be OK, they would have had to open my hand up and put me to sleep if I'd gone through it!!!

What really pisses me off is that I am going snowboarding on the 3rd Jan and WHEN I fall over, I am likely to open it up again!!!
