hello all. I now own a dizzy sum of 2 bikes, plus a load of pushbikes, and I am soon posted from the uk to germany, so decided to get a van, but not sure what size to go for. i want the smallest one i can get away with, but not sure a swb will be long enough, or if a low roof will be high enough. the bikes are a 02 r6 and a 01 ktm exc400... any ideas?
im already looking so haste is of the essence please.

cheers guys n gals.

wil.

You can easily fit 2 full size motorbikes in a SWB transit van with room to spare.

Very Happy

Why does the van have to be small ? IMO your better off getting something bigger just incase. I have a lwb pick up (350 transit) with a hiab on the back and there's LOADS of spare room, and much more usefull for odd jobs Thumbs Up

A transit swb will fit any 2 bikes in easy,if its only for bikes no need for a high top or anything unless you make some overhead storage.you would squeez your ktm in something like a citroen dispatch but not 2 bikes hope this helps.

We put two big bikes without damaging them, strapped up in a minibus. Was smaller than a van. If I recall rightly it was a bedford, if anyone knows them they are quite small.

Yea I don't recommend it, but I was just indicating that one shouldn't be too worried a medium sized van/minbus will do it comfortably.

We had to take the front wheels off the bikes and then supported and strapped them up well it was ok in the end, but a lot more work and thinking to get them on board.

One bike we had to put in forwards then take the wheel off (was a delicate operation), the other backward then take the wheel off, had already fitted loads of padding between the bikes, they were hugging each other the whole journey.

Not much space for anything else but was a heroic effort. Very Happy

that sounds like a right mission,
puts my "getting the bike in the back by myself" mission kind of weak in comparrison.

i have just moved towns not 3 weeks ago, 5 hours away,
i had 2 big bikes on the trailer with the monkey squeezed in between,
the vespa in the back of the van, the mz and kh in the furniture truck along with the mrs honda, and had to get a mate to ride the cb1000

i hate moving Sad

Got a zx7r and a zx6r into a standard renault traffic, plenty of room for all the bits you need at a track day etc aswell. Only downside is you can hit your head a bit easily while moving about in the back Mr. Green

For reference they are similar size to a swb transit.

Danny and I easily got a Buell and a BMW K1200R into a SWB low top tranny on a number of occasions.

For off roaders, I'm not sure if you'd want a hi-top van though really...

Hmmmmnz... G has a Delicia now, like all his vehicles it doesn't quite work correctly... Embarassed Smile

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

if i'm moving bikes around i borrow gf's dads Peugeot Boxer van which is SWB but high top so can stand up in, that fits his BMW K1200RS in fine Bear in mind the Boxer Van is roughly 4.6 metres which is the same as a Skoda Octavia

SWB low roof transit, as above is fine. I've had an SV650, 675 and GSXR750Y in there ok - was quite tight and the middle bike had to go backwards. Small amount of padding wedged between bikes and bikes and van and don't think any tie downs were needed Smile.

Dirt bikes fit in fine, but mirrors have to be taken off if you have them.

Hopefully Delica getting sorted soon - think I actually partially got it from your post on here previously hmmmmz.
Given the choice, I much prefer bikes in a van as there's less worries about them falling off, being stolen, etc.
