Don't want to spark a war or an argument, just out of interest.

Recall hearing somewhere that it is often a mistake to believe that a wider tyre allows for better cornering and hence a mistake putting on a wider tyres on a bike than are necessaryor that it was designed for.

That the contact patch apparently is roughly the same and more dependant on the shape of the tyre while cornering.

A wider tyre provides more road grip and more practical for heavier more powerful bike giving more stability on the straights.

Hi

Wider tyre can take more heat which is their main advantage. Tyres also work by keying into the surface rather than just pure friction.

However main things with fitting an over side tyre is that the rim is likely too narrow. The tyre when fitted lands up badly distorted in shape, and it is this odd shape that upsets the handling.

All the best

Keith
