Anyone ever seen inside a 01 600 hornet's rev counter and know how it works?

I'm trying to repair it, but i fear i might be wasting my time, as i might be missing a few more bits that i dont know about.

*Please see pics
-1st and 2nd ones are before and after a few repairs.
-3rd one is a close up - shows the 4th diode thingy that im trying to get back in there, but its very fiddly.

Hopefully someone will spot whats missing, ultimately from pic 3.

When i ride the bike, the right-hand side light (of the 2) of the tacho, works and the temp gauge works also, however the other light and i fear the rev counter, does not. So the investigation continues...

cheers Thumbs Up

ps. try not to laugh at some of my shoddy work, its only temporary and i was in a rush Rolling Eyes ...doubt it'll pass the next MOT though! Crying or Very sad

Fecking LOL!

Seriously mate, buy some new clocks.

The MOT doesn't actually look for a working rev counter or speedo so as long as what you have there is not dangerous to you or others it might even be ok. You do need a few of the warning lights though (hi/lo beam etc) although I forget exactly which ones.

Not sure what you mean Rob but they don't care about the mileage at the MOT station. They record it, that's all. You might have to explain if it is less than the last MOT though.

My mate fitted a trailtech vapor dash to his after a spill.

I found that I could fit the speedo magnet into one of the disc buttons by just running a M5 or M6 tap through it and screwing the magnet post straight in.

cheers guys, and esp. for the links, ive been keeping an eye out for some clocks since August/September last year on a budget of 150ish, so will see how auction goes Smile

like i noted, the speedo side works, so all good there, its just the tacho and some plastics that need repairing. generally all other lights work too.
**which is why my request was ------- does anyone know there way around the inside of a hornet's rev counter etc etc.?

i'll get a pic tomorrow for you all to laugh at. did some more work on them earlier.
...the looks dont bother me right now, just wanted full functionality of the clocks, so have now had to make do without tacho, and sealed it with a fair bit of glue Razz

a screen i thought would do nicely to protect them further, no?

if all a no go, then i will pursue digital clocks, maybe vapor trail clocks indeed, ta. ...then the issue of wiring em up. oh joy! more electronics lol! Rolling Eyes

Confused Forgive me if i sound like a right nonse, but can you measure the revs on a motorbike by simply 'plugging in' another set of compatable clocks, or can you take it to a local garage where they might have some purpose built machine to check the revs on bikes with no rev counters?

For now, im thinking not having to replace my clocks, as i dont 'need' a rev counter right now, but would like to get it checked monthly to check the bike is running at the right rpms, idle speed etc etc. maybe by a garage.... potentially saving me £150 on new clocks.

cheers Thumbs Up

Surely as far as idle speed is concerned, if the revs are too low, the bike will cut out at standstill. And if it's too high, you'll be able to hear the sound at a higher pitch

Yes there is a hand held gadget that you can put to the middle of the flywheel that tells the RPM.

I tried to find a strobe light that you clip to a plug lead that tells the rpm but cant find one. They are around.

I have one of THESE.

You connect it to the coil and you might have to do a bit of calculation due to two coils firing 4 cylinders but it works.
