So, CBR600f ('95).

Sounds like the battery has gone 'nggh', nothing but a clatter when i try to start it.

Put the battery overnight on an optimate. Try it again, still nowt.

Put a different battery in, still nothing but a clattery relay. I've currently got it on the optimate.

Thing is, the battery went from good to bad literally overnight. I simply don't trust the datatool (which I think is a system 21).

Am I right in thinking that the 21 is an alarm only? If so, can I simply put it into service mode and remove the fuse/back up battery/smother it's sounder until it dies and forget all about it, or do I need to do some sort of trick with a blanking plug/paper clips?

Ta!

First check the relay and all other connections are clean before going near the alarm. Thumbs Up

Sage advice! Checked as many connections as I could with the tank still attached, and got jiggy with the WD40.

I now reckon it's the starter motor, on the basis that all it did when I bypassed the starter relay was make a faint clunk.

Still a pain, but at least I'm not knee deep in datatool wiring trying to work out why it still isn't working!
