Whenever I go up a hill/slight incline my moped literally almost comes to a complete stop.

I know mopeds are slow, but mine uphill is just rediculous Laughing

I do about 10mph up a hill, then it feels like it completely loses power, as it drops below 5, stops for a second or 2 and then regains a bit of power.

I think it might be the drive belt being to loose and not being able to engage properly on any sort of incline, but I'm not to sure.

Any ideas?

How big & heavy are you as it maybe struggling on a steep incline -hey it's got be asked! Rolling Eyes

Also, has this happened recently and never had problems before that on that type of steep incline?

This is where normal bikes blow scooters, etc, off the road and maybe your bike isn't automactically changing as it did before to the appropriate gear as the condition changes!

Definitely worth getting the belt cover off and having a look. Knackered belt is a possibility that may not help.

Changing the rollers may help - it may be staying in relatively too high a gear (think this would be due to too heavy rollers).

Or possible it's just not making enough power over all.

I'm about 6ft 1, but I only weigh about 9 and a half stone.
Rides great on small inclines provided I'm going fast to begin with.
If I'm below 20 or stop before a hill and go up it, then it does go slow as hell.
I can do 36 on flat and about 42 down hill, but it just hates hills.
It's not too much of a problem. I'll just have to try and avoid them Laughing

It's a 50cc scooter, they don't do hills.

I know my bike isnt a scooter but it is still a 50 so I thought I would share.

I have to keep my bike singing all the way up the hill else it wont go. I have had 40 up probably a 30 degree incline before. And it does help having a clutch as you can slip it and ride it a bit and get it into the powerband.

Oh, and Im 6'1"-2" and Im like 16 stone Laughing

I really want gears, but may as well just wait till I'm 17 for a 125.

Yeah but your bike gets a lot less abuse on the flat.

When you 17?

And who said 125? Go all the way, take your test and get a big bike (thats what im doing 50-600 bandit hopefully)

17 in October.

Tbh I wouldn't have enough money or experience to take my test and buy a bike over 125cc.

Anyway isn't your license restricted to 250cc (33bhp) for 2 years, or are you planning on restricting it?

Plus the insurance would cost a considerable amount for me if I went and bought a 400 straight after passing my test Laughing

Rather buy a decent 125 like a cbr.

I haven't even been on a geared bike yet Laughing

Yeah, 33bhp not 250. A lot of people dont but I think I will (for a bit at least) police arent too hot down here anyway.

Insurance would cost the same for me and 600 bandit or even 400 bandit, 250 hornet etc will be cheaper as they are not sports and they arent imports.

And Im sure you could find somewhere to practise gears on someones bike?

So sports bikes cost more to insure? Makes sense I suppose.
I was also considering a cg/ybr.
I do have mates with geared bikes, but they're the sort that don't trust anyone but themselves to ride their bike, so...unlikey Crying or Very sad

Hand on heart. Ive tryed to google street view it but it really doesnt seem as steep.

Im not one of these ped bois who goes around claiming there bike does 70. Neither do I ride round in trackies, a hoodie and a box helmet with stickers on it. I do not bullshit to make my bike seem cool.

Yes it may have been an indicated 40 but really, is it that far off?

EDIT: Ive attached a paint diagram of the cross profile of the hill...
