how hard!!! r6 seat on 89 cbr6

hi guys.ive just bought a cbr6 and wondered how hard is it to fit a r6 seat and rear subframe.the bike looks ugly the way it is and ive already bought a 97 cbr6 front fairing to try and fit that also.... thanks

Probably with a lot of difficulty. Im not sure if the subframe is detatchable on the old jellymould CBR6's. Could be an interesting project mind if you can do it on the cheap. You'd probably need to do a lot of cutting and rejigging of the fairings and maybe the frame to get it all to fit.

I'd say don't bother if it's your only bike. But then again, remembering my mate's jellymould CBR6, it was FUGLY!

I think that the old Jellymold CBR's are POSSIBLY one of THE most uninspired, boring AND ugly looking bikes ever built... I remember when they came out. Honda had been dogged by reliability hassles with its aircooled inline DOHC fours, more by the water cooled V's... so it was all about rebuilding thier reputation.
They claimed the fully enclosed styling was to offer better aerodynamics and covering the engine, reduce manufacturing costs as they didn't have to put cosmetic finish on engine covers and stuff....
Its still pug ugly, buty you know ONE day not too soon, SOME ONE is going to restore one to catalogue spec and stick it in a show, with all the original blurb, heralding it as a bench mark design, and will win awards with it, and people will start paying silly money for ones that haven't been hacked about, and are restorable......
Sad.... but this year the jelly mold CBR will be eligible for 'classic' insurance!

It'll look shit, the same way it looks shit when someone sticks a Tyga rear end on their 400 without changing the front end.

Why? Because one end will be all modern and 'pointy' looking and the other will be all 80s and boxy. Even a fairly old R6 end is still gonna be 10+ years newer and thus look completely out of place.

Either change the whole thing or leave it be. A new paintjob, designed to highlight the good and gloss over the bad, would be a much better idea. Or go full retro and make it look like the A-Team or something.

well thanks for your point of view guys.this isnt my only bike. its just something i got cheap and wondered what i could do to change the look abit... no matter what it will still be an old bike but its in such good nick and runs sweat that i just fancy doing a few suttle mods and a full paint job in focus st orange with sum carbon huggers and using it as a winter bike instead of my 08cbr6...
im not a mechanic but i like a challenge and see what i can do...
i will strip the bike next week and make a wee resto with pics..
