The many layers of my jacket got me thinking, it has a waterproof layer, and a windproof layer. But surely waterproof layers are windproof as they dont let in water molecules. Or vise-versa as wind doesnt let air pass through it.. Can anyone shed some light Laughing

I think, and I'm probably wrong, but when they say windproof they mean they help with the cold that comes with the wind.

A plastic bag could be said to be water proof but if you were to wear one over your hands when out on the bike you probably wouldnt feel the wind but your hands would freeze with the cold air associated with the wind.

Windproof has the fleecy layer to help prevent that.

Gortex, is a waterproof membrain.
It keeps water out, yet allows your moisture out and is breathable.

So waterproof does not always mean windproof.
