Thinking of getting an SX 2 stroke for the road, looked at the maintence for off,road ridingg.. is it this much servicing if just forr road use? help appreciated.

Yes, you're maintaining the engine. It may not be revved as hard but if you use it for motorways or even fast A-roads, it can be worse!

Do the same amount of maintenance and you will have a lovely road bike. Also, if the bike breaks down on track, you stick it in the van and go home. If you break down in the countryside somewhere, then you're stuck!

The EXC might be a better choice; they will be more expected to handle periods of extended high rpm etc; the SX is certainly not a bike I'd choose for regular road use, but could be fun as an occasional 'sunday' bike with SM wheels.

As above. the road can often be harsher on dirt bikes than off road as you have extended periods of high rpm, while on dirt you tend to be up and down the rev range, at least unless desert racing.
