I've been looking to get myself a Street Triple but funding limits me a little to some of the higher milage examples out there. However, I've just come across a bike on Ebay which has quite low miles but has been crashed and then repaired:

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2010-TRIUMPH-STREET-TRIPLE-BLACK-/320667497636?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item4aa945b4a4

The seller states that the steering stop was broken and he has had this replaced with a screw on attachment. There are also a couple of scratches to the frame, presumably from the same accident. What I'm trying to work out is how bothered I should be about the steering stop - presumably a crash bad enough to break this off could potentially damage something else on the frame or twist the forks?

Save up some more pennies, and buy one that is structurally, cosmetically and mechanically sound. Thumbs Up

You'll only end up regretting it down the line...

I've only ever bought damaged repairable bikes. It means I can have a bike I want and not give that much of a shit about binning it as it's not immaculate.

Do it if you want it, but don't pay that much for it.

Rubbish, you can get bikes repaired flawlessly and you woulnd't be able to tell the difference.

I've had a few written off cars in my time, as long as the jobs done right, there's no big deal.

I expect a good chunk of money knocked off the price compared to standard. People may yarp on about resale value, yes it will be less, but everything has a price, buy it well and you'll not lose money.

Does make me laugh when people say how little damage was done to some vehicle though, an example, a car that was roughly £85k new, written off after 2 years old. "All it needed was a rear bumper, made it a cat d". Yeh that's right, what's probably a £35k car written off because of a back bumper, from the dealership fitted you're looking at change from a grand or so!

+1 for this.

I dont see why people spend thousands on bikes to just sit around in the garage 80% of the year beacuse "It might start Spitting Later"

Get yourself a cheap-O that you like and have fun on it.

Just makeshure you know what you are buying and how much parts cost if you are going down that road !
