Hi there..

some of you may be aware that i recently failed my mod 2 Sad.

Im jumping the gun here a bit by asking what bike i should get next?

I currently have a cg125(56 plate) and my module 2 is in two weeks time.

Im not going to buy anything just yet, instead i want to brainstorm some bikes and see what choices and suggestions you guys can give.

Ive payed my insurance up front for the year..(£400) and i had a crash the first week into in ¬.¬. so I cant cancel it and get my money back, and i dont want to be stuck on this 125 either cause its getting boring ;o!

Ive seen some awesome bikes like the zxr400, sv650, vfr400. but id like you guys to shed some light please.

-I want to avoid getting a 250cc.
-I hope to get a 400-600cc restricted
-my budget will be about £1200

fire away!

CB500.

It'll be restricted anyway so may as well get something small and cheap, it'll go pretty much the same speed as any other 33bhp bike.

Next up my list would be an SV650 as I am told they restrict well (i.e. bland before, bland after Wink ).

If they were unrestricted then I'd aim for a hornet/fazer/CBR/ZZR600.

I'll just weigh in with the usual note that you should almost certainly avoid a 250 if you care about selling it on.

When you come to sell in late 2013, the post-2013 A2 license will be 35kW =~ 48bhp, and that will likely be obtained on a full power 650, so a 33bhp 250 will be a significant step down for new licensees. I mean, if there even are any.

Love a duck, I've just had a thought about that, which I shall ejaculate in another thread.

Concentrate on passing your test first, then think about what bike you'll get.

Good Luck. Thumbs Up

I'd go for the SV650 personally - it offers a bit more to progress with as your skills progress and will offer you a decent difference when you derestrict it.

How much are you looking to spend? If you can stretch to it you can get the gladius for about 3500 and are really nice first big bikes to ride (although a bit girly!) and being essentially modern sv's shouldn't take restrictors too bad.

Hornets aren't too bad although being Honda's hold their value quite well.

Bandits ain't bad aslong as they're post 2001 or had the headers replaced (and being suzuki nice cheap ones can be found *-))

Or if you're on a tight budget I'd look at something like a honda bros (below 33 i suspect so wouldn't need to restrict).

Or if you want sporty look out for VFR400/CBR 600's.

Or that's what i'd do if I were to have to get a restricted bike these days.

a gladius ??? really??
Sick Sick
far better off with the sv650, at least people actually bought them, so spares are available,

its what i'd recomend for a new rider, pretty predictable in the power delivery, looks are fairly decent, and spres areeasy to get hol of,
a few years down the line when the prices drop a bit, id say the er6f would be the way forward,
very simple engine, look pretty good, and parallel twins are nice

the 500's are getting a bit long in the tooth now, but all 3 from the major manufactures are really good bikes, they all just look a bit dated

Gladius's now are no different then the SV's were back in about 2001. Where as now the fuckers are everywhere.

Plus the Sv's are fugly pieces of crap.

I had a bandit and liked it.

Cb400 is same as CB1 I believe? (and if so... I have on many occasions been tempted to buy one.

As long as the accident isn't your fault you shoudl get insurance for about 250-300.
