I am currently in the No camp.

I bought these in late November since then I rode for 2 weeks (10 days) before Christmas and then about another 6 weeks of commuting since then.

As you can see from the picture the left hand glove seems as you would expect in good condition where the right one is falling apart.

These are the Jet Road GTX gloves, I paid just shy of £100 for these and to see them with holes forming in the palm after a couple of months is somewhat disappointing. I have old been caught out in the rain 3 or 4 times during the life of the gloves.

I would take them back but the place I bought them from is up in Birmingham and I am London based.

No. You paid for a name and design. I don't rate their stuff any higher than Frank Thomas. In fact I think FT is better quality. Smile

I've got a set of SP-2s which I'm not very impressed with. They are OK but are showing too much wear and tear for the mileage I've done.

Yes.

Gp Pro here and the build quality is immense. Thick leather, well stitched and glued or whatever. Solid protection on knuckles, wrists and they look good.

I'd send that photo and an email.

My Super El-Cheapo Tech-7s have lasted +20,000 miles. They're not a good glove but they aren't showing the same wear as yours.

So working out the mileage of my commute I have done approx. 630 miles in them.

The left one is fine, the right is buggered. I guess I might write to them, I was expecting a better standard than my last £50 pair of gloves that lasted about 2 years. Looks like I will be lucky to get 6 months out of these.

Yes for GP Pros. Not a scratch on them after a lowside. Can't really comment on longevity though as I've probably not done 1000 miles on them yet.

Alpinestars SP2's are so far the best gloves I've bought especially when I got them for a very good low price in USA !

They keep me warm & dry but most of all I get a better feeling from them of the handlebar grip without it being over padded in the glove.

SP1s saved my hands more than once, sadly the final time I did skid along a racetrack on the palms of my hands so they were knackered after that. Got some GP Pluses now, comfy fit and more protection Wink

Not happy with their recent kit in terms of build quality. I had to do running repairs on the 2nd layer (palms and thumbs) overlay on my GP Pro's! My 07 GP Plus's on the other hand have survived a LOT over a more prolonged period and look in pristine condition.

I did take em back to Hein Gericke and they said "it's wear and tear!" NOT after 2 months it ain't!

Nothing a bit of rubber glue and spare leather would solve.

Is that the suede/nubuck type material that's falling apart because I have to honestly say that it's pants! Must be a duff batch, but when you're paying £100+, you expect decent quality!

But unfortunately for me, I can't help how comfortable their kit is... and it holds off during crashes too!

Contact Alpinestars over that, I've had a set of Jet roads for 2 or 3 years and they are still fine, no holes, no bad wear patches etc. Either you've got a faulty glove or you're rubbing it on something that's tearing it up, check your bar end maybe?

I can't fault any of my astars gloves personally Thumbs Up

I've been using a set of SP2's for 3 years, loads of miles, not a mark on them, even wore them when I crashed Laughing

SP1's for a few years now. Got um before the GP's came out. Comfortable, well made and still going strong.

I know their cheaper ranges are terrible though. I had a vented, short cuff pair which didn't last long. I've seen a few pairs of their budget gloves fall apart like those.

What have you been using them for? Wink Laughing

I have some Frank Thomas storm gloves which are still like new after 3 years of riding, I use them in summer and winter although they are winter gloves Laughing I've currently bought some Weisse Tornado gloves which are the sporty type like the A* GP's but you can get them with kangaroo leather (I found out later so mine don't have it), they are good for nice weather and in the cold if your an 'ard man! (I'm not Laughing)

Well judging by the comments it looks like I may have a duff glove. Will contact Alpinestars and see what they say.

6 weeks and you've ruined them?? sounds very strange indeed.

i have a set of astars gpx (stubbies) for my summer gloves and i've had em for nearly 2 years and they're still fine. bit grubby, must clean them actually, but they're still all in one piece.

my winter/wet weather gloves are the goretex 365s, i've had em 6 months and they still look like new. bought em just before a 1600 mile tour around scotland too so they've had plenty of use from then to now

Alpinestars is like the iPod of bike gear. It's not the best or the worst but it is one of the most expensive and you generally pay a lot more than I would value them at purely because of the name.

Arlen Ness, Berik and other emerging brands are far far better value for the money IMO.

As with most brands, it depends which you get.

Some of the cheaper ones, I'd say maybe not, you can probably find better without the name branding...

GP Pro/Plus (for example), I'd say "yes, if you're looking to spend that sort of ££".

i've had 2 pairs of jet road goretex, there has been about 4 different designs over the years, my first ones were the original ones which lasted years and I killed them by holding the manifold on my DR350 one morning to warm my hands up, my next version were the 3rd design, still in use today and 4 winters old, also use gp plus gloves for last 4 summers and they're fine.

email alpinestars with your problem, they will ask your nearest dealer to deal with them instead of you having to return them miles away, they may even ask your nearest dealer to replace them for you on their behalf, just give them as much info as possible.

I have a pair of A* SP-1 's that are used daily during warmer days... They've survived my original CBT, DAS, and 3 summers worth of commuting and I think they're the best summer gloves I've had in 6 years of riding.

I've had other (HeinGericke) summer gloves at the same time, but they were no-where near as comfortable of secure feeling as the A*

I also have some Tech 7 winter gloves. A small part of the stitching has frayed within a few months of winter riding, but they're very warm and quite comfortable.

why not e-mail the picture directly to alpine stars them along with a copy of your receipt explaining that have had them less then six months and they are failling to bits.

They might offer to repair them or replace them for you, its got to be worth a try for the price of an email
