Hey guys,
Miss this place, been way to long, thought i'd ask for some good old help.
Both bikes have been sitting for a good year and a half, and i know i'm a twat for not starting them every week, guess i'm paying for it now...
I've charged both bikes fully, batteries are fine, headlights are as bright as anything, electrics are all cool, i'm thinking maybe the carbs need cleaning? What will the fuel be like after all those months of just sitting there? Plugs maybe?
If someone could give me any ideas on what it could be, i'd really appreciate it.
Cheers
Matt |

On the Bandit, firstly drain whats in all of the carbs, then try again using the "prime" position on the tap. if that doesnt work, fresh plugs (or give them a clean) if that fails, carb strip and fresh plugs.
hope this helps. ____________________ Current : 06 Zx10r, 07 Wr450f SM, 74 850 norton commando, 63 bsa b40, 1962 Triton 650, 67 Triumph Tr6r, 1955 Triton 750, 1978 TY250E. |

Cheers steveh and Val, i'll see what i can do tomorrow, i'm not that good mechanically, with bikes, might take it to a garage if no luck, how much do you reckon ithey'll charge if i describe the problem?
As for me passing my test Rob, that's not gonna happen for a while unfortunately, realy tight on money and time, i don't know if i posted on here, but i failed 4 times last year
First time i took the mod 2 i was doing really well, 30 seconds from the test centre, i went and fucked it up, my fault, but so devastated! The other 3 times were odd little faults here and there. If i'm honest, i didn't like the examiner, hated the guy, and quite a few people reccomended i stay clear.
I blew like £500 on those tests, and a days training, so i'm just taking my CBT again in May when it runs out, get back into the swing of things, then later on this year, i'll take my mod 2 again. I'm selling the Bandit too, once it's up and running, i need to, it's just depreciating in value every day, sad times...
Got really attached to the 125 though, i'd hate to see her go. |

Wow that sucks. I remember you posting ages ago about your tests.
Shame you never got round to using the Bandit. How come both bikes have been stood for so long?
Anyway after a year and a half the petrol will be in a right state, and probably full of water.
It would have been a good idea to fill the tanks right to the brim to stop rust and water getting in and to have drained the carbs.
If you do manage to get it started the carbs will probably be gummed up and it will run like a bag of shite.
But in the first instance its best to keep cranking the engine just to try and get it started. I left my Bandit for a couple months and it took about 8 goes at cranking the engine for it to start.
Only hold the starter for about 5 seconds though then give it a rest otherwise you will burn it out.
And also very important is to have the choke on full and DO NOT twist the throttle at all, this will just let air in. Once it has started then rev it with the throttle.
This is how mine was running when water had gotten into the tank. Wouldnt rev at all:

Yeah I remember posting about that Ditto, shame though mate
I've got the 125 up and running, flushed out the fuel and topped her up with some fresh stuff, feels like i've been away for far to long, £1.33 a litre!?
Even more reason for me to keep hold of the 125! Fuel consumption on the Hyo is brilliant, best i've ever seen or known of, so that's one hell of a bonus!
Anyway, the carbs for the 125 were actually fine, I also put an Iridium plug in, swapped it for the standard, but keeping that one as a spare
As for the Bandit Rob, i'd love to mate, but unfortunately I can't, needs to go ASAP! I'll be selling it for £950 (OVNO) if you want to spread the word? Apart from me slacking with keeping her up and running, she's been well looked after, and is in great condition for a 15 year old bike! I was well impressed when I first went and viewed her
I'm getting my mod 2 done in late April, early May, and it will be completed! Mark my mother fucking words!
I'll stick with the 125 until the end of this year, and in that time i'll look around at other bikes, i'd like to go for an Enduro, possibly between a 300 - 500 for when I pass my test, not bothered about speed and style, as long as it's reliable and has good mpg, the insurance should be cheap too
Any recommendations there? Would appreciate it guys
P.S The test centre i'm going to is Grantham Val |
