If it's purely for home use and you have a decent audio set up already in the living room/bedroom/whatever, then just get a lead that goes from the headphone jack of the laptop to the amp. Maplins do them for about £8.

If you don't have a hi fi already in place or you need transportable sound, then no idea. Sorry.

edit: externals will be a piece of pie to connect.

The lap top top is to be used in a spare room but I need a better sound than the standard set up.

I wouldn't even bother with unpowered speakers, you probably wouldn't notice any difference between them and the lappy's internals.

I use these Creative Inspire 280 and I'm pretty chuffed with 'em.

I work for PC world and one of my roles at work is to merchandise products. My big job yesterday was PC speakers, I spend 5 hours opening, setting up and listening to every set of speakers we have in stock. These gave me a shock, they are £20 in store and I think £15 online. For the price they were insane quality. Some of the speakers can sound rediculously tinny and of blatant poor quality. These hold their own with more expensive, well known brands. For that price you can't really go wrong either. Thumbs Up

I'm quite sad like that mate, I want to look at everything and see what is actually worth buying. As opposed to others who would just want to sell you the most expensive item. I would rather you went home with a £20 pair of speakers that you are really happy with because of the price and the quality. Instead of you going home with £50 speakers that you aren't happy about because of price and quality. I really enjoy my job especially when customers go home happy lol.

Pixmania is also owned by DSGi the same company that owns Pcworld and currys and all the other ones. So if pixmania has something you want online that is cheaper than it is in a PCWorld store, go in and tell them and they will price match it. Saves you waiting for online delivery. Thumbs Up

Just wait for the Best Buy (originally from USA) stores to go widespread throughout UK, as they have their Geek Squad of Techs that go out to customers to homes/small or medium sized businesses to install Home entertainment systems and attempt to fix computers on site.

Their stores are HUGE compared to a PC World store. https://www.bestbuy.co.uk/
