I have been using new 10w40 oil on my chain for months now and never had any problems. I just filled an empty (and clean!) Fairy Liquid bottle and just apply as needed. Only downside with using oil is that it is bloody messy after a ride!

I've got new engine oil left over from the last oil change in my scottoiler - its working a treat. Sooooooo much cheaper than spray on lube

if you use new oil, get Tesco value... it is nice and thick and nice and cheap (for oil!)
