Anyone seen the MCN group test of the 04 Blade, ZX10 and GSXR1000? Is it published on the web anywhere?

I did.

It's a pile of steaming *****.

All they've done is commented on how they think the bikes would compare then scored them on a variety of points... including 'accessories'.

Doesn't tell you anything the separate reviews of the zx10/Blade/any random GSXR review would tell you really.

Can someone post it anyway? I have very restricted access to the internet and this site is the only bike link I can get on to.

Cheers

It's usually the case isn't it. Still want to see it though and disagree even though I know nothing about them, which is usually the about as much as the testers. I've finished reading Bike magazine and missed the issue of MCN with the test, I'm also at work and need to keep myself occupied!

What G said, it was the guys who were at the launches of each bike and reporting it, it wasnt a head to head test.
The GSXR came last, the other two had only one poiunt between them but i cant remember which one won Rolling Eyes

In the AMA tyre testing the CBR got the fastest times then the R1, ZXR and then the gixxer.
The cbr and gixxer were fully tuned and the ZX totally bog standard Shocked
I think Kawasaki are gonna do extremely well this year, MCN reported that they were getting rear wheel spin at 140mph on the Ninja. Cool

To be fair they did make a few performance related comments, such as;

  • The new Blade likes to run wide on the brakes,
  • The new Blade has a lot of useable power with very smooth delivery,
  • The ZX10 is physically very, very small - but weirdly is okay for 6 footers Question Blade feels compact but comfier than ZX10. GSXR felt like a comfy armchair compared to the other two.
  • The ZX10 is very precise in the corners - even on the brakes,
  • Only the Suzuki's brakes failed to impress,
  • The ZX10's acceleration is F*cking quick - made the GSXR1000 feel 'tame' by comparison Shocked
  • ZX10 gearbox has faults at the mo. Sometimes cannot change up when in or near the redline. Engineers sorting it (hopefully) before production in Feb.

So some useful information - but yea, not great.

Thats generally what happens as the competition develops. At one time the Triumph Bonnie was king, do you think its starnge that it no longer is?

I can imaging old bob would have argument about that with you.... Although I think he prefers the Norton Commando.

Speaking of the Triumph Bonneville, a mate and I have one to restore. We're going to start in the summer by striping it down etc.
Most parts will be coming from our local Honda dealer. But most of the bike is there. It's been sitting for about 10 years AFAIK so will take a fair bit of working on.

Nah, the GSXR is an older model so they are not giving out such fancy freebies to the press.

All the best

Fireblade was undisputed king until 98 when the R1 came flying past. Things change, different manufacturers take the lead, first it was the Blade, then the R1, then the GSXR1K now it looks like it's the ZX-10R.

Firstly i think you always gotta take what the Boys at MCN say with a large dose of salt. The GSXRthou is probably a few tenths behind in lap times if that! and to be honest, a better front brake set up and a another 10bhp which im sure suzuki could very easily coax out of the motor could be enough to regain top spot, in what is really a too close to call contest anyway.
Speaking from a mad kwak fanatics point of view, i hope the ZX10 is the better bike in outright performance terms, as it deserves to be after giving away so much for the last few years. I also hope (not very likely mind!) that it holds the crown for best 1ltr sportsbike for a good few years! Lastly i hope the new zx hasnt lost any of the character of previous kwaks, so i would hope for the rough tickover, gruff and comparitivly noisy engine note, and not to forget the typical kawasaki airbox roar, and trademark top end rush! lol.
In reality i think that the chances of a monumental bike like the first blade in 92, or the R1 in 98 foing on to clearly dominate their class for several years are all but gone! Still i like to think that if there had been no GPZ600R would we have bikes like the CBR6R now, and where would big sportsbikes be today if we'd neva had a GPZ900R Ninja?

I agree with the abolutely microscopic differences in 'real-world' performance terms, no argument there Very Happy

Only thing I disagree with is your 'hoping the new Kwak is like Kwaks of old' Evil or Very Mad Fuck that! Speaking from experience I sincerely hope they have no resemblence to my stinking pile of turd that is a ZXR. Confused Well okay, maybe a little bit Very Happy Like the airbox howl. Or the green attitude of the thing Very Happy Okay I love my bike really....
