High-tech cameras on Britain’s most dangerous road haven’t caught a single person speeding – because of a planning cock-up.

Hmmm, or haven't caught a single person speeding quite possibly because they 'worked' to a reasonable degree - from what people are saying I thought everyone HAD slowed down there.
I'd be willing to be speeds ARE well down, but what about the accident statistics? Sadly, if they are down to, then it has 'worked'.
Sadly, again, a single fatality saved could well recoup £800k as such - if it was on a motorway, then definitely more than that as far as 'cost to the country' goes; not sure about a case like this.

£800,000 for that. It's not hard to see why the UK is nearly bankrupt. Four billion for a bunch of brand new planes that were scrapped before they'd ever flown. Rinse & repeat thousands of times per year. But nobody is sacked or prosecuted, the govt just cuts hundreds of services for the common man and then whines about how nobody engages with politics. The things I could do with £800k. Laughing

Yeah several anger management courses Very Happy No really I agree the MP's should be shot.

Not me, an AVERAGE of 50 is beyond my skill level - but from what I've seen people haven't slowed that much.

£800k is a lot of money though.
I don't know how much those temporary camera vans cost to send out - but just parking one of them up there on a sunny Sunday afternoon would make them a fortune.

The whole speed camera debate is an interesting one, but the point is these cameras cost the best part of a million - and were put in places where they were not effective. Hence I think they were a waste of time.

They may have worked just like CCTV camera - moved the problem to the next road along.

You'd need to look at regional KSI figures to find that out though.

As I say, a single fatality can easily cost the country a lot more than that - the IAM estimates an average of £1.8m per fatality.

£800k seems like a hell of a lot of money to you or I, but in the grand scheme of things is a piffling amount.

A quick fag-packet calculation shows £800k to be 0.0001% of the countries expected expenditure next year.

This also annoyed me in Swindon when they reported that more people were speeding when they turned the cameras off, so it was a 'failure'. They ignored the accident statistics - remembering that accidents were the excuse for cameras in the first place, and speed limits too.

How many accidents have been caused around the country because a camera van has parked in a lay-by and people brake where they would`nt normally brake.

I have heard of it happening on the A14, but I cannot confirm that.

nearly happened to me a few years ago. was sitting behind a merc doing about 85 on a d/c . open road, happily following when we come round a corner and there was a mobile van sitting on the overpass. the merc in front of me slammed on the anchors so hard that he was snaking everywhere and surprised the hell out of me, even at a reasonable following distance i had a job pulling up in time (mainly because on a big open road you dont expect someone to stand on the brakes so it took me a second or 2 to realise just how hard he was standing on it.

wasnt best pleased tbh.

In other vital statistics, 20 million children are eaten by bats every second.

Of course, They cover it up.
