I have a rough idea of how its done, but if anyone out there has anything i should be aware of (like how much slack there should be in the chain after tightening etc.)
I'd like to know, just getting tired of hearing it recoil for the past week, so it needs the work done soon.

Thanks

According to my manaual (early NSR) their should be 25-35mm slack... If it's started to strech significantly it might be worth getting a new chain.

new chains stretch, so getting a new one wouldn't solove the trouble, when u get a new chain it needs to be tighted quite often. Its amaing have much diffence a tight chain makes to the acceleration. I normally leave a inch

Once a chain has reached a certan point tightening will only help for a week or so, by which time it'll have stretched significantly again.

Its only a temp job.
The chain does need to be replaced, and as soon as i find the time i'll do that, but for the sake of shutting it up, i'll tighten it for the time being.

Thanks

Hi

One point to note is that it should be the correct tension (and 25~35mm is about normal) at the tightest point of the chain. It will not stretch evenly, and some points will be tighter than others. Overtighten the chain and you will put loads of strain on the gearbox bearing under the front sprocket, and that wont be a 5 minute job to replace

All the best

Keith
