little autobiographish at 1st sorry but it will make sence.

ive been meaning to start this for a few weeks now as i started the project back at the end of january just had not got round to it. . . Mr. Green

ill start by explaining a little about the bike. i bought her last febuary with no tax and m.o.t off fleabay as a non runner for £320.

after a short fiddle i discovered the lad had put a dtr 125 carb on her as both model share the same engine, however un known to him the dtr has different jetting so the bike was startin but not revving over 4000 rpm and cutting out.

so a quick swap of the carbs and a new spark plug she fired up straight away no hastle by this point i was like wuuhey, short lived when i took her for a m.o.t, the fail list was endless.

:-
no inicators
wheel bearings gone
fairing fouling at the handlebars
fairing fouling at the foot break
bulbs the wrong colour
head light out of alignment
engine bolts missing
leaking fork seal (he let me off on an advisory)
head set bearings far to tight causing weave at low speed.
front break pads

so back to the work shop Sad

i managed to get all of this done got her throught the m.o.t
started riding her about,

very disappointed reaching 60 mph and running out of power!!!!
i was thinking this is not right had a little look in the manual spoke to a few people then a conversation with the m.o.t bloke who owned the same bike as me quite a few years ealyer popped back into my head on how he had de-restricted his by opening the power valve fully.

so i take a little trip down to him and ask if the valves turned 180 degrees the wrong way will it do the opposite and restrict the engine? YES he says so with that i go home and have it apart and low and behold it is in the wrong position so i switch it round opening her fully and bolt her back up. . .

well i was well chuffed with the result 1st and 2nd it would lift the front wheel by a few inches of its own accord with the throttle pinned firmly opened Twisted Evil top speed of 105 mph as clocked by a mate in his car next to me on a duel carriageway
so as you can imagine i was fairly happy with the new found power.

the a few problems started to rear there ugly head!!! Sad

1)the rear tyre was badly buckled causing a brain shaking wobble when i took her to the tyre place he wiped it off n had a look and the tyre wall had given up. so £40 and i got a new michelin tyre from a small bike shop!! Very Happy

2) the bike was eating a large amount of gearbox oil and there was sometimes a bit of smoke from the exhaust turns out the crank seal was worn!!! Sad

3rd was not so much a problem as more a bi product of being de restricted she was eatin alot of 2 stroke oil.

then one day 2 weeks afrter the de-restriction disaster struck after spending the afternoon at a friends 10 miles away in the next town i was bombing along one of my favorite a road at bout 70 when. . . (scrrrch) the back wheel locked up i grabbed the clutch as quick as possible and the engine cut out my heart was hanging out my mouth and i had some sinister stains in my underpants!!!!
i coasted to a stop already expecting the worst lifted the seat to discover no 2 stroke oil!!! rooky mistake that i shouldnt have made as ive been riding since i was 12 and had a lot of 2 stroke off road machines! Embarassed

gentle pushed the kick engine had free'd up Laughing so i gingerly road the 4 miles home not exeeding 30mph.

so time for a re-build.

found a cheap tiawanese piston up in there with hairline crack running all the way down the seam line from shoddy craftmanship.

so i did all of the work includin crank seal new race piston full gasket change little end bearings new clutch tweaked the carb a little to even out the low end splutter due to the valve being open and lack of torque and back pressure and put her all back together.

she fired up 2nd kick!!! had a little problem with wiring being brittle but sorted that and there on up until end of november no real problems. i mean i cained her abused here even she was starting to look tatty from my negligence engine still running like a swiss clock she never let me down.

the the snow came and being a little nutty i thought it would be fun and it was but. . . 5 offs and a trip into a bush tho had really taken its toll, my clutch lever was 2 inches long front break lever bodged and selotaped on bent l/h clip on from one of the offs bent head light bracket snapped fairing ect. she was in a state.

so im sitting there one day looking at her thinkin what am oing to do with you i was eve considering insurance job but then i got a letter saying i had paid my insurance up and the next 4 month we free (well not free but you no) and i thought to myself nooo this bike deserves more she been good to me we've had good times the same as weve had bad but she always been there always cheered me up when im down always been there for a good thrashing when me and the missus have fallen out, like any good mistress should be Razz

so i stripped her right down sent the fairing off to a good friend of mine who does body work on lorries and he fixed it up and sprayed it volvo white .

sent the top end off up to birmingham to my old place of work for a re-bore.

bought new fork seals (which i never done from the m.o.t Embarassed )

break pads

all new bearing all round

rear suspension bushes and bearings

new levers

new oversize piston + rings

full gasket set

assortment of other small bits and bobs

im now in the prosses of rubbing the frame and wheels down and cleaning all external engine casings

my head came back and is now with the same good friend whos porting and polishing it.

new bottom end bearings

and a lot of polishing on other things like fork legs and stanchions.

photos will be on here later today and i will update anything ive left out. cheers . rick
