today was the first time ive ever changed the spark plugs on a bike. normally i take it to a shop to be serviced but have been on a budget lately so i though i would do it myself. it all went well, took the bike apart ( a cbr600f4i 2002), changed the spark plugs, put it back together and it still turns on.
this was all good until my dad asked if i measured the gap on the spark plug, now i worried im going to have to take it apart again to remeasure the spark plug!
will the wrong size gap effect the bike in anyway?

As it started and runs then i'd say you're gap is fine.
TBH the gap set at the sparkplug factory is normally right for your bike.

See how it performs.
You can always 'take your bike apart' again.

If they were irridium plugs you rely on them being right from the box as you aren't supposed to gap or clean them as you might scratch the coating on them.
Tell your dad they were irridium Very Happy

I bought a tool just for measuring my spark plugs and it turned out they had already been set by the factory.

It can't vary much bike by bike, this was for a Bandit 6.

tbh you shouldn't even have to check it on a standard type plug, as terror said they should come set correctly from the factory. the only time it'll be incorrect is if its been dropped on the electrode or pressed against something. anyway, you should be able to tell if its excessively close/wide just by looking at it.

The tool is used to but them back to factory settings when they wear down. Personally i just guess at it, but if i get it wrong i'll just buy some new ones Razz

Plugs are the easiest job to do on SOME bikes, and a complete twat on others.
