The more I see these threads crop up on a weekly basis, the more I'm tempted to give the Bras D'honneur to L-platers so that I can see threads saying

"do bikers normally give the 2 handed, bent elbow up yours gesture to L plate riders!"

In short, you get folk that nod to L-platers... generally I acknowledge folk that aren't on peds wearing trackkies.

But a lot of the time, unless you clock them from a mile away, you might not get a reply.

It has to be a sideways crook of the head so rather than nodding like a churchill dog, its basically have your head cranked slightly and flick it from south west to north east! That way you look like you're BLATANTLY giving the nod rather than giving the impression that you're looking at your mirrors.

Being snobbish, I only ever nod to power rangers now! Wink them or old folk dayglow dereks on half faired jobbies (Fazers etc)

The problem is you aint passed your test - which for most guys who give the nod, see it as a bit of a passing of rites. An initiation into the brotherhood. By seeing no L-plates, in their eyes, they will see that you have successfully passed your test and therefore deserve the acknowledgement of a nod! They will know that you won't simply get a car when your CBT expires! That or you're a total pillock and haven't been caught for your 6 points for failing to display! It's a catch 22! Get your test, get respect Wink

I got more nods once the hell plates came off! I was on an XR125 back then, hoisting the rear end up at every possible opportunity!

ENOUGH OF THESE BROTHERHOOD OF NOD THREADS!

Pretty sure at some point after I joined I searched about this and found that BCF had replaced the 'bikers nod' with this:

there is no problem most people start on L and if they did not its because there either ancient or went for a direct access which contrary to popular belief does not automatically make u a better rider or a bigger person.
getting a bike for most people is about exitment and freedom and if your only sixteen getting a ped is the only option (unless mummy and daddy are loaded) and get you a decent geared 50.

Would probably be replaced with another weekly thread titled
'Why don't bikers nod anymore?'
