Gonna keep this brief.

Missus mum runs a salon, her birthday today, one of her main presents was a brand new mini. She loves it etc.

Drove it to work. Came out of work, mini has a scratch down the side. A lot of her clients are elderly so she suspects one of them accidentally hit it on the way out.

No one came in to tell her or anything. Shes pretty down about it, being her birthday and everything. I doubt theres anything she can do but I pitch it to BCF. She only noticed it before she went on her way home.

Is there any help for this? No CCTV or witnesses or anything. She only suspects one of her clients hit it. But she's pretty friendly with her clients so it could be anyone.

Last thing, bike cover and chained up at my house at uni, in the morning, came back at 3ish, bike cover was down near my front door... House mates don't know anything about it.

1 - not much you can do, but maybe you could t-cut it out for her?

2 - I don't know about where you live, but it was very windy here, bike covers can act like parachutes and even pull a bike over if they catch the wind, never mind blow off.

What exactly are you hoping we shall say? That there is some kind of secret spy organisation that was covering your girlfriend's mum's salon with satellite surveillance?

No witnesses, nobody confessed, no CCTV, pretty much sealed isn't it.

As I said I was very doubtful. Merely getting a second opinion. Clearly.

Now now Phoenix...you know how it is for the younger generation, they just don't have the brain power to think independently anymore...they live in a fed world, everything comes from somewhere / someone else.

Freedom of independent thought is not common-place anymore. They are bred to rely on the internet/others for every given answer to life as we know it.. Shocked Scary, but true!

Cars get scratched. Fact of life. If you don't like it, wrap it up in bubble wrap.

He did state he doubted there was anything, which means he obviously had a ponder and then decided that on the tiniest of chances he had missed something that someone else would have experience. You're mistaking the younger generation with iPhone-drones.

Best course of action Redoko is to collect a sample from the scratched area and from all suspect customers cars, buy a fourier transform infrared spectrometer and a polarising light microscope, learn to become an expert in both instruments and then analyse all the samples to find a match against the paint sample from your girlfriends mum's car. Confront them with the evidence and I'm sure they'll pay up for the respray or maybe a tube of T-Cut if you can find the right colour.
Hope this helps.

You can pick up a good used (Perkin-Elmer) Fourier transform IR spectrometer for about 4k on eBay and the microscope for about £600. Mounting the paint samples for analysis may require extra consumables but this shouldn't be a problem.

Yes, I'm bored today.

When did kids start getting brand new cars from their parents as ONE of their birthday presents?

Anyway. For me, sell the Mini now, net maybe 8-9k in a private sale.

Then use the £8-9k to buy something good.

HTH

Thumbs Up

(If you really have to keep it, then T-Cut it out as best you can. She'll get over it. It won't be the last scratch it gets)

I'm guessing the present wasn't off Redoko's girlfriend Laughing It doesn't actually say it was, just that it's his girlfriends mum has got the car.

Hmm, the way I read it was that his GF got the car off her mum, then drove it to her work (at her mum's saloon.)

Still stand by selling it and getting a proper car.

Muzza read my post correctly.

However, it was a present from her whole family really, cousins, etc. The lot.

The missus doesn't have the finicial means to buy her a brand new car. Laughing

Send some paint scrapings off to a lab, they will be able to match the paint to the make and model of the other vehicle involved.

Or just get some touch up paint.

As for the bike cover, probably just got blown off.

For the scratch depending on how deep it is you maybe able to wet sand it out. Find a detailer near you and enquire about a price to get it out (probably wont be cheap!).

Oh yeah, outsource the labour to some ripoff merchants. Bet you'd take your bike to the garage for an oil change too. Rolling Eyes No, I stand by my first advice. Invest in the tools and DIY.
