I just applied for a driving licence replacement, scared to think what I will get from DVLA. My old one still had 25kW restriction printed on. I thought I would share my grief haha

*biting fingernails*

Course you can ride without it on you.

But you didn't have to send it away either....

When I wanted this removed I just paid £20 for a new licence and told the DVLA I'd lost mine via. their online driving licence replacement thingy.

Got it within five days, was very quick and came back right but there is no way on this Earth I'd entrust the only driving licence I have to those incompetent troglodytes.

Hyperthetically speaking...

This might be totally dumb but if you say you lost your license ( photo card and counter part ) but you hadn't really lost it, they send you another one out so you have 2 copies?

If you were to get pulled and in line for some points, what would happen if you produced 1st license and put them on that, then when you needed insurance or something, you produce the clean license?

Not that I have any intention of doing this as I like riding knowing I'm fully legal and nothing to worry about but people must do that?

As far as I know, licence points are added not to the licence you have but to your driver number on the DVLA's database so yes, your counterpart would have the offence on it and the other wouldn't but a check of the DVLA's database would turn it up so it'd be a pointless endeavour.

Not sure though, I may be wrong there. Laughing!

The DVLA cock ups we hear about aren't these mainly for riders with the old style paper license? Newbie riders should be okay or am I wrong?

A lot easier when you "find" your "lost" one though.

Are you aware that the "From" date on your new one will be moved forwards 2 years, which may lead to your insurer stitching you up like a kipper?

There's not much we can do about that except hang on to our pass certificates and licenses with the original pass date, and go in swinging.

I was not aware of that! Now that sucks. So my FROM date will be March 2011 instead of March 2009 Confused

I just sent mine off today to have my address updated as it's been wrong for almost 2.5 years now. I dare say I am also biting my nails at the possible fines that await me when they know my actual address. Embarassed Laughing (I change bikes a lot, potential issues about V5's not being received by them, tax running out on old bikes etc etc etc)

not sure exactly but I think there's an issue number of sorts 01, 02 etc depending on how many they have sent you if you lost your licence 3 times you might have 04 on your current one.

read something like that could be wrong.

I don't think thats true. If you look on the back of your photocard it will still have the original dates of you passing your tests.

Although on the front of the card, it does change ^.^

There are no category dates on the front of the photocard, they're on the back. Neutral

The DVLA do steal 2 years off of the "From:" date on the photocard if you passed A2/standard and got an "A <= 25kW" license. I've been on at them (before that MCN article) about it, and they're not budging. They even denied knowing about it being a problem with insurers, although they'll find that a bit harder now that it's been splashed all over MCN.

The counterpart will (or should) show the pass date and that you had "A2" entitlement for the 2 years of "A<=25kW" restriction. "A2" is not a license category, the DVLA acknowledge that if you ask, but they don't seem minded to correct it.

It's a complete clusterfrak, they just don't appear to give a damn that we're getting screwed over because of their choices.

I can 100% confirm that now. I just received my licence.

https://i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac42/ApriliaNutter/Random/licence_update.jpg

So 2 years experience was taken away from me, at least on the photo card. The paper bit now has a note about my 2 year restriction in Entitlement History. But to avoid complications with insurance companies I'll probably say I got my licence on 30 March 2011 rather than 2009.
Oh and also on the back of the card on the bottom 71 code was added, when I checked online it means 'licence duplicate' apparently, so no problem.

I can confirm the above too.

When I got the <=25kW taken off my licence they migrate the old pass date to your counterpart and give the date your two years expired to be put on your plastic card licence.

Do NOT change it. You have had your licence since March 2009, your licence says so! You passed a test to give you a full category 'A' licence just with a restriction, so continue to say March 2009. I don't change it, I've had my licence three years this year no matter what some troglodyte Governbent agency says, avast with ye. Thumbs Up.

I don't want any insurance company to make it difficult for me if I claim. I will get some quotes and see whether it makes any big difference to the premiums..

Off topic, but out of the six people I know who have had LASIK-esque treatment, all six have had to go for treatment again and 3 of them now have vision worse than what it originally was when they had the treatment done.

In my opinion LASIK-style treatment is still very much experimental. I'd like to get it done but maybe in, say, 30 years time when the long-term effects are properly understood. Until then, contact lenses do me fine. Thumbs Up!

You have had a full licence since 2009. I've had two non-fault claims now where I've listed myself as having a full licence since the date I passed my first test and have had no issues. Thumbs Up!
