OK this is cheeky as fuck. But I have an interview there on the 11th. With the train and suit money is going to be extremely tight and I can't really stretch to the £40 for the premier inn. Can anyone local put me up for the night for twenty quid?

I've already checked crashpadder

My jealousy needs to know if this is an interview with triumph.

I thought your comment in the 3D bike model thread was some sort of April Fool's joke, but it seems not. With the talent and skill that you clearly appear to have, you don't need luck, that's for the no hopers. Good stuff. Go and design some cool bikes I can't afford Wink

There is actually someone on BCF who already works doing design for triumph, but I cant remember who.

It was ages ago that I last noticed them posting, and cant remember what their name was.

I might be able to find out though.

I couldnt think of anything to do a search in posts to find the triumph employee. If anyone else knows, it might be handy for Tristan to have a chat with this guy before the interview.

I've just had a look back through my messages to see if I ever messaged the triumph design guy, as I know I had discussions with him on bcf.

I didnt find anything, but I did find some messages from Tristan a while back when we were discussing the practicalities of slipstreaming.

I've got a mechanical engineering degree so he also asked me.
"Oh and btw I'm currently halfway through a mechanical engineering degree, and I've been wandering what kind of jobs you can actually walk into with it straight out of uni. "

What I didnt say was, well you you've probably got a good chance of getting an interview doing design for triumph.

Thanks you very much guys, I've pretty much been unable to get rid of my smile since I got the email.

Anyway I'm not expecting to get it, but if I didn't take the chance I'd be pissed off with myself forever. Becuase that is my absolute dream job. And even if I don't get it I still get to have a tour of the UK factories.

I feel stupid for putting it on here and telling pretty much everyone I know because I'm sure it'll jinx it but nevermind.

I actually really want to get it now so in ten years when the Trident 1400 comes out Colin can sup from his ale, puff on his pipe and lean over to a young biker and say "I won an argument with the man who designed that"*

*you can say you won Wink

I wouldnt say I won. You merely conceded that a vacuum did not exist in a slipstream, merely low air pressure. Vacuum is a rather strong word for low air pressure, in the same way that inferno is a strong word for flame. All a matter of degree.

I hope you are going to show them those rather impressive pics of 3D design motorbike. You are practically doing the job in your own time already, which will make their job easier.

I doubt many people they are interviewing will have something quite that impressive to show.

When I was at school, there was a careers talk and after it, I asked someone what they wanted to do. He told me he wanted to work in TV. In my most patronising condescending voice, I asked him something like , "Do you know how hard it is to get a job in TV ?"

Well not only does he have one, he's a senior TV executive in charge of developing new programs for one of the biggest TV companies in the UK.

So if there's one thing I've learnt from that, its that dreaming big is not always a bad thing.

If you make yourself the best, they'd be daft not to take you. Someone has to get the dream job.

I'm still wishing I could remember the name of the guy on here who works in design at triumph, but he probably wont log in before the interview anyway.

If you have no luck, just tried Laterooms.com and the best price on a room in the area is £27. LINK

I'd offer you space here but public transport would be an arse to Hinckley and cost near £20 anyway although it's not all that far.

Ideal cheers TS, thats right down the road from them as well, 20 mins walk. I'll book it tonight in case it goes up

Cheers Colin. I will take a mini portfolio to the stage 2 interview if I get it. As well as just showing them it I can use it to illustrate points. For example if they ask about one of my weaknesses. One of my actual weaknesses is being far too meticulous. I know it's such a cliche to say that in an interview, but I can point out the R clip I made for the bottom of a footpeg, even though nobody would ever see it or care I didn't feel right untill I'd made it, so it is a weakness.

Currently I'm thinking of intelligent questions to ask while looking round the factory. But I have a bit of an ace up my sleeve, as Triumph are one of the UKs biggest proponents of lean manufacturing, and we've covered quite a lot of it on the course recently, and I got a first in the coursework

Congrats on the interview,

https://www.psychometric-success.com/downloads/download-practice-tests.htm

good site to practice the mechanical reasoning and fault finding test. Helped me out for my interview.

BTW they do pay your expenses (if reasonable), but only after the interview and got to wait a few weeks for the cheque

Me, Yambabe and Hellkat do have friends who live literally 5minutes away from the factory, but we don't know you...so...it'd be a bit tricky to ask them...but what I could do is ask and see if they know of any B&B's close by??

OP - what course are you on? I'm doing Mech/Auto Engineering too, but I'm only first year and I've only had a few hours of use at SolidWorks. Your CAD thread is very impressive!

Why not ask them if they fancied having a house guest ? That way they get to choose. Bit of a fun novelty helping someone get his dream job, if your friends are into motorbikes as I bet they are.

When you ask them if they know about B&Bs they might be keen to help out themselves, in exchange for feeling a bit involved.

Yeah this exactly the kind of 'weakness' to mention.

I once met a girl who was OCD and she blamed it on her dad who was a satelite engineer. Its a fine line between attention to detail and madness, but employers love it.
