Selling a business

Anyone on here ever sold a business?

My family own a deli/cafe and for personal reasons, we've had enough of it now. We put some giant for sale posters up in the windows and we've had some good interest from several potential buyers, one putting in a ridiculously cheeky offer.

It's on rightbiz but is there any other sites or better ways to sell? Is ebay worth a punt?

I would expect to use a business sales company or website, someone looking to buy a business is unlikely to be looking for one on ebay. Posters in the window may work but it may actually harm your business?

Thing with cafes is it's not necessarily worth any more than a completely new start business unless you have some kind of extraordinary reputation that has seen a significant growth in custom over the years. Have you actually looked at what other similar business sell for, if at all? You may well be totally over valuing it, presumably the premises are rented so it's only the equipment that actually holds physical value aside from the reputation.

It's leased premises but the food in the cafe isn't like any others. My younger brother was the chef, coming from top French and other restaurants in the North West and built up a very good reputation on the outside catering side.

It's a nice business for someone who has time and knowledge to put into. It's not over valued, we're asking for equipment, lease and the name/catering side included in the price.
