Well the bike will last two years, but sadly you won't. No you're not going to die, you'll get bored and move onto something bigger. It happens to everyone (who passes their test [/me nudges colin and others Razz])

Should be fine, Colin has had his over 3 years, and its never been that bad!
Had mine over a year now and just needed regular crap thats needed for these bikes.

Like any bike, you look after it and it will do the same to you. (With some luck anyway Wink)

Mine lasted me two years no problems. Very Happy Can be a very good bike to learn to ride on - especially as an introduction to knee down activities Mr. Green Get one and enjoy it - but don't spend too much. Chances are you'll crash it at least once I'm afraid Confused

Chances are the bike will need a top end rebuild in 2 years, just like any other 2 stroke will.

Other than that, it depends on the mileage that you do exactly what else will need replacing.

As for them saying that you will get bored - I've had mine for over 3 years now and it still gives me a grin when i ride it. Yes, if I had passed my test i would probably of gotten rid of it, but its because I am happy with the NSR that I'm in no rush to do the test.

Depends really. I'd have gone insane from the lack of power on the NSR for two years Confused Neutral

I reckon you're best spending less money on one and then doing some training and your test, get the 33bhp clock ticking and get a 400cc.

It depends.

Most people will want a bigger bike before then... usually laziness is the main thing preventing it Smile.

You can get a good NSR for a tad over £1k. Just it won't look as good.
You're paying that extra £1500 for a bike that looks shiney and new when you get it.
You have to work out whether you value those looks when you get it at £1.5k or now.

I wouldn't spend that much on one.
If you want one that looks like the newer type then just get on after 94, That way there look pretty much the same, ride the same and well be generally the same and save yourself about £1000.
Wouldn't really go for a brand, close to new one.

I Brought mine from new, passed my test, de-restricted, got bored (and fed up of the 2-stroke fuel/oil consumption) and sold it all within 6 months - a VERY expensive mistake that i'm still paying for. I've had two progressively bigger bikes since then which, when combined, are a whole grand cheaper than what I paid for the NSR - doh!

I originally was going to keep it for atleast 2 years until my restriction period was over...

You will be bothered about it when you want to upgrade to a bigger bike. Trust me on this one Rolling Eyes Also you'll be wanting to do your test and move up once you've got used to riding etc Smile That £1500 you could save now will go a long way then!

cheers. but i have been told that a top end rebuild isnt much. so im definately on the search for a NSR125 now ! Very Happy
They don't cost much in terms of parts (under £100) but they are a right bitch to do and not cheap if you go to a garage. https://www.asdz68.dsl.pipex.com/smile/CUSSING.gif

So you're going to live on £250 a month including running the bike? I'd think again Smile

Lets see. Couple of trips to the pub a week: say £10-20 a time. So we're at say £40-80 already

Petrol: its a thirsty little bugger, it'll go through about £8 every 100 miles. Say a tank a week, plus some two stoke. Plus general parts, wear and tear. Tyres need replacing, brake pads wear out, oil needs changing, It all adds up. Say a good £70 I reckon at least a month.

Insurance. Say you pay monthly and get TPFT for paying monthly for £750 (i'm guessing you're about 18) That's another £75 a month roughy.

And you'll spend money on general crap, clothes and living. Lots and lots of crap normally. And you'll crash your bike and break it. And you'll want things like a full license, better kit, and other stuff.

£250 is waaaay out Smile

Perhaps you'd like to lay some money down as wager on this Smile.
So many people have said this about their first bike, inlcluding myself, the majority of these have wanted a bigger bike withing 6 months.
Believe it or not, alot of us have 'been there' and 'done that' Smile.
