I havent bought a bike since 2009, and am gagging to be back on 2 wheels, ANYTHING 2 wheels.

So im saving for a house, the SP1 went last year and the Turbo MX5 is going soon (anyone interested in a Tubby MX5 let me know).

At first i thought a CG125 would be perfect for the spring/summer but i noticed how much they have shot up in price.

its now like 500-700 for a fairly crap one !, now obviously this is down to fuel prices, same as diesel cars.

But why Sports bikes too ?

whatever it is, its bloody shit

currency collapse, mate.

all western governments are busy destroying their currencies
in the vain belief that exports are stimulated. Sad

hence the price of everything goes up, excluding items which
require non-available debt finance like houses*, flash cars etc.

HTH

* house prices are 'sticky downward' , unlike share markets which can correct overnight.

125s have always been more expensive than their 125+ equivalent because of learner laws.

Best thing to do is go on eBay, look for all bikes sub £1000 nearest to you and see what comes up.

Or it could have something to do with everyone just being greedy and expecting their generic off the line bike with dinkywanka indicators is worth £100 more than the last one that sold.

I bought several 125cc bikes around 3-4 years ago, the price has most deffinatly risen.

I bought a mint condish RXS100 for £300 with 12 months MOT, cant even get a shite one for that now.

Now i /did/ plough that into a taxi almost right after purchasing but hey.

Cheap bikes are out there to be had. I've just picked up a CB100n with 12months MOT, 12months tax, and a full service just done by a dealer for £350. Insurance is £30 a month fully comp and it's cheap on fuel (80-90mpg).. I cant grumble as I'm using it for clutch experience coming from a moped before I go for my Mod2..

I found my bike by going on the newly listed auctions and calling a couple of people up asking if they had a BIN price or what they'd take for it. Took a few calls but worth it.

As an aside, why fully-comp a CB100? Making a fire, theft or accident damage claim would end up costing you far more in higher premiums over the next half decade. Go 3rd party, spend the difference on a big lock, and if it gets hit-and-run, leave it in a ditch and walk away.

Was a few quid more to go fully comp than TPFT, figured the few quid (literally around £4 at most I think a month) was worth spending to get a few extras on my insurance like breakdown recovery and bit more assurance I'd have my stuff taken care of if I came off in an accident.

I agree that for a cheap bike thats usable and running with tax&MOT, you should forget 125's nowadays, especially popular models too!

You would probably find something old but in reasonably looked after condition, in the 250-400cc bracket that would still be cheap to run and maintain. I think something like an older 250cc bike, which is a class that is not popular or sought after today, would be quite cheap and you could probably get a tidy Superdream, XS250, Z250 etc for £300-400 fairly easily. Look in classic bike magazines, and free ads, as well as Ebay, Bike trader etc. It's also worth popping down to secondhand bike dealers to see what they have got in that they can't shift, and nobody wants etc.

Just avoid looking for the popular or sought after cult bikes, and particualary rare and interesting 2strokes, as those 30-40 somethings, that can afford to buy and restore these old machines have pushed up prices for late 70's to late 80's bikes towards the unrealistic and inflated prices of bikes like the Yamaha LC/YPVS twins etc. Bikes like Suzuki X5/7's, Kawasaki KH's, TDR/TZR's, RGV's etc etc are all rising for decent examples, and even stuff like Honda CB20RS's or GSX250's are getting more expensive with time for what they are.

Not meaning to push a sale. But i'm after selling my Hyosung GT125R.
Its done 18,731 miles. Just been serviced and will be having its MOT and Tax renewed next month, plus new chain and sprockets.

Mechanically its had its little hicups in the past but is running lovely now. Cosmetically its not perfect, few scratches and winter corrosion in places.

Looking for £1000 for it. It does 77 mpg and is stupidly cheap to insure. I'm 25 with 3 years NCB and pay £166 comp for the year.

I can't see Wave parting with 1k for a GS5 based, heavy 125 given his bike history.

Buy a c90. Laughing

I bought a slightly neglected but otherwise sound FZR400 for £675 recently. Even had a years ticket. Tax cost £30 or something silly like that and its great fun to ride.

I think the trick is to not be too fussy about the model of bike you're looking for. I suggest you keep an eye on the Ebay Bike finder at the bottom of the forum. That is where I found the FZR, and it was badly listed. I wouldn't have otherwise stumbled across it, and of course it shows bikes in your local area so it makes life a lot easier from that point of view.

Just choose anything that has an MOT, is under 600cc and isn't too shabby and you'll find something for not much money eventually.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

You can get a good CB-1 for £500 which will pretty much give you the 400 supersport experience (slow but sporty revvy engine) but for a lot less cash. I find mine more fun than my CBR6 despite not being really quite as good at anything. Very cheap to insure too.
