To be honest, I don't care which we have - as long as I can access it from work - so not IRC then! Confused

Well if this cgiirc incorporates irc chat into a webpage why not use that? That way the trillian losers will still be happy and so will all those who would prefer webchat.

TBH I really don't give a stuff either way.

Hi

Personally I prefer the forum based chat room. Easier to just pop in and out of.

But only if it works under Opera.

All the best

I would have to hope for this as well since I use my dads PC and whereas I can access IRC through the forum, I can only do it when he is out as he is paranoid about anything JAVA. It took months for me to be allowed MSN Messenger, I doubt I can download MIRC.

Are the cgi scripts likely to use up more more processor power than your php chat?
And have you got any other reasonable objections to it Razz.

The load would no doubt be greater - it's a proper IRC client, not just a simple chat script - though it doesn't matter too much.

If I was to install cgiirc I would have to either fiddle with the firewall to let it talk to foreign IRC servers or install a local ircd and have it connect to that - neither of which I want to do.

Gah, just fiddle with your firewall. An outbound IRC connection's hardly going to be a massive security risk.
Haven't really got the time, but I was playing with some php IRC librarys, which did seem to work okay. So I reckon the current chat could be modified to work with IRC or something Smile.
