hi guys.

My garage door seems to be sitting at an angle which I think is possibly a stretched cable or something.

My mother has already paid a professional to "fix" this problem but it only worked for like a couple of days. I think the cable probably needs replaced, although the bigger issue is that it seems to be sticking. I know where the problem is and I have photos.

Here is a photo of the good side operating as it should. Notice the holes that are on the runner and how the pointed part is well clear. The cable maintains full tension all the way down.

Now here is a photo of the offending side. Again on this side the point is initially clear of all the holes until the garage door is nearly shut, then this happens:

the pointed part catches on the hole in the metal runner (notice the rip in the padding) and this results in the garage door sticking and the cable to then become slack.

It is clear the pointed part has been designed this way likely to be some sort of safety device to catch the door if the cable snaps. I think maybe the cable has stretched and this is what is giving the slack that is resulting in this safety design to jam my garage door.

The first picture clearly shows a return spring. Do you guys think it is that or is it the cable that needs replaced?

The garage is a made by garadoor and is steel up and over manual type.

I will need help in choosing the correct part. The cable has a metal bullet end so it is clearly threaded through this then attached to the runner. The cable is 48.5inches long measuring from the bullet to the top of the reel, with around 1 wind remaining. I'd say it's probably around 50 inches long. Do you guys think it's the cable or the return spring?

Thank you for any help.

It's worth knowing that when the garage door is sitting upright parallel to the garage roof, the good non sticking side is higher than the side that is sticking.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thumbs Up

Depending on the make of the door, you could try the Garage Door Spares website ??

I previously had a problem with the hinge, and the spring return mechanism on our "Garador" garage door, and managed to find the parts, and helpful fitting guide(s) on that website Thumbs Up
